There was a lovely Confirmation ceremony both in Ballyhahill and Loughill last Friday with Bishop Brendan Leahy present. These was the first Confirmations in the county for 2022. Bishop Brendan hoped to be able to attend as many as possible, he said. Congratulations to the twelve children who were confirmed in Ballyhahill: Clodagh Prendeville, Noah Daly, Lauren Campbell, Mikela Kennelly, Julia Lawinska, Kellan Walshe, Dan Healy, Jimmy Mullane, Timmy Relihan/Walshe, Timmy Cussen, Ross Phillips, Gary Conway. We were blessed with a lovely sunny day.

I was sad to hear of the sudden death of Mary Reidy, Knockdown on Monday. Sympathies to all her family. Funeral details are not yet announced.

Sorry also to hear of the passing of Dolores McNamara from Glin. Dolores was always very kind and pleasant and obliging in her shop in Main Street, Glin. She endured a lot of physical pain throughout her life so I hope she is free from all that now and at peace in her heavenly home. Sympathies to her brother Thomas and all her family.

Tuesday March 8th is International Women’s Day.This day was observed for the first time in 1911. The United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day in the International Women’s Year, 1975. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to proclaim March 8 as the UN Day for women’s rights and world peace. Groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.
