JAMES GUINANE: The death has occurred of James (Jim) Guinane, Ballyvoughane Ardagh at Milford Care Centre Limerick on Wednesday May 1. Predeceased by his parents John and Catherine, He was a gifted mechanic by trade and a very helpful and popular person.  He suffered ill health in recent years and sadly passed on to the next life still in his late sixties. Reposing was held at Kieran Madigan’s Funeral Home Askeaton  on Thursday May 2, from 5.30 to 7pm. The Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr Michael Noonan on Friday at 12 noon. Cremation was held in Shannon Crematorium at 4pm. Sympathy to his brothers  Sean, Mike, Patsy, sisters Marie, Breda,   brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces,  and a wide circle of friends including good friend Gerard. May he rest in Peace.

JOSEPHINE O’CONNOR: The death has occurred of Josephine ( Joan ) O’Connor (nee Wilmott ) Ardnacrohy Newcastle West and formerly of Coolcappa Ardagh at her residence on Saturday April 20. Joan’s Funeral Service and Cremation was held in Shannon Crematorium on Thursday April 25. Sympathy to her sons Tony, Andy, daughter Melissa, extended family members, relatives, friends. May she rest in Peace.

SYMPATHY: Sympathy is extended to Bernie and James Flynn and family Ballyegna, Ardagh on the death of Bernie’s sister Frances (Frankie) Lynch (nee Harman) Eyon Cappamore and formerly Listowel  Kerry on Wednesday April 17, at Beech Lodge Nursing Home Bruree. Reposing was held in Meehan’s Funeral Home Cappamore on Saturday April  20. Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Nichola’s Church Boher on Sunday followed by burial in Abington Cemetery. Sympathy also to daughters Bernadette, Susan, son John, extended family members, relatives, friends. May she rest in Peace.

ROAD HURLING PRESENTATION: St Kieran’s GAA Club recently presented the proceeds of their charity hurling day last December 28. The total collection raised € 10,120 and two cheques  each worth € 5,060 were presented to the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association and Milford Care Centre .

FÉILE WINNERS: Congratulations to the Old Mill ladies who won the Division 2 competition in Kilcornan and Askeaton on Sunday April 28. In the group stages they defeated Fr Casey’s, St Senan’s and Ballylanders in Kilcornan. They defeated Oola by 1-5 to 1-2 in the final which was played at Askeaton.

GAELIC GAMES: Congratulations to St Kieran’s Under 15 hurlers who won the Roinn C Féile na nGael competition at Mick Neville Park on Sunday April 28. They defeated Cappamore by 1-9 to 2-4 in the semi-final and Blackrock by 1-5 to 0-4 in the final. It was a first title for the club at this grade and well done to all the players and mentors involved. St Kieran’s defeated Belville Gaels by 5-5 to 3-1 in round 2 of the County Under 17 Football League at Coolyroe on Monday April 29. St Kieran’s lost to St Senan’s by 3-9 to 1-9 in round 3 of the County Under 17 Football League at Coolcappa on Wednesday May 1.  St Kieran’s lost to Bruree  by 2-22 to 2-13 in the Intermediate Hurling League played in Bruree on Saturday May 4.

SOCCER NEWS: Kilcolman Rovers lost 2-1 away to Breska Rovers B in Division 3 of the Desmond League on Sunday April 28. Creeves Celtic and Carrig Celtic had no games. In the quarter final of the Desmond Ladies Cup Creeves Celtic lost 4-0 away to Ballingarry and Kilcolman Rovers had no fixture.

BOOK LAUNCH: Mary Kury from Ardagh launched her latest book  Treasured Memories, a survey of St David’s Graveyard, Churchtown Newcastle West in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Wednesday April 24. A nice crowd attended to hear the speakers and copies were available for sale at € 30. It’s a welcome addition to the local history  of the Newcastle West area. Shirley O’Regan is producing a programme on West Limerick 102 and a podcast series with Mary to accompany the book and share some of the remarkable stories from the community. You can hear new episodes every Saturday at 10am and you can find the podcast on all podcast platforms.

BUS SHELTER: The National Transport Authority is to distribute 900,000 for new bus shelters in Limerick in 2024/2025. Twenty-one new bus shelters will be erected around the county including one at Reens Pike Ardagh.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery   draw took place on Monday April 29.The numbers drawn were 3,16,17,21, and  there was  one  winner of the € 17,600 Jackpot. Congratulations  to Paudie Kiely Ardagh  and to the five lucky dip winners who received  € 40 each, Fiona Hennessy Glenastar, Therese Kelly the Cross Ardagh,  Bryan Meade Rathkeale, Ann Herbert Newcastle West, Ann Harnett Ardagh. Next week’s  Jackpot will be € 5,000. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.  Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.

RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Katie Phillips Newcastle West , who won € 215 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday May 3. The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry,  and from the radio station.  All support will be appreciated. SPLIT THE POT: Congratulations to Ross O’Donnell who won € 553, in the April , Creeves Celtic FC Split the Pot monthly draw held at the Thatch Newbridge on Thursday May 2 . Tickets to enter the draw are available from committee members, club managers, at Neary’s Ardagh,  Inver five crossroads Rathkeale and the Thatch Newbridge. All support will be greatly appreciated.

PIETA HOUSE: The Darkness into Light 5k walk/run in aid of Pieta House will take place on Saturday May 11 at 4-15am from the Desmond Complex Gortboy, Newcastle West. The walk will continue along the N21 towards Lacey’s Cross, turning left towards Gortboy and back to the Desmond Complex. People can register online at www.darknessintolight.ie or at the Red Door Square Newcastle West on Saturday May 4, from 12 noon to 3pm.

HOLY COMMUNION: The first Holy Communion ceremony will be held  on Saturday May 11, in St Molua’s Church Ardagh at 11am.

OLD MILL NEWS: The Old Mill Ladies Gaelic football club are holding their annual family fundraising walk on Sunday May 12 at 10am from the Barnagh Greenway Hub. It is open to all ages of people from the wider community.  They are still accepting unwanted clothes which will help raise funds for the running of the club.  The clothes can be left in their orange bin beside their club house. They are holding  a Coffee Morning in Ardagh Hall on Friday May 24, from 9am to 1pm.

REMEMBRANCE SERVICE: Milford Care Centre will hold its annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving at Our Lady Help of Christians Church Castletroy Limerick on Sunday May 12, at 3pm.

CEMETERY MASS:  Mass will be celebrated in Loughill Cemetery on Sunday May 12, at 2pm, in Kilmoylan Cemetery  on Sunday  May 19, at 2pm, in Kilbradern Cemetery on Sunday  May 19, at 7.30pm.

RAMBLING HOUSE: A rambling house will be held at Ballyhahill Hall on Wednesday May 15, at 8.00pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners  are welcome to attend.

DEBRA IRELAND: The Debra Ireland Kerry Challenge 2024 takes place  on Friday May 17, and Saturday  May 18. Eamon O’Kane, Pat Toomey, Mike Histon and Joe Carrig  from the Creeves/Shanagolden area will again be participating in the 2-day Hike in the Dingle Peninsula. They will be raising funds to ease the suffering of children suffering from E.B. or Butterfly Disease. All donations will be appreciated by the quartet.

HOLY COMMUNION: The First Holy Communion dates for 2024 have been announced for Coolcappa and Kilcolman parish as follows.  On Saturday May 18 at St Kyran’s Church Coolcappa at 10.30am, followed at St Colman’s Church Kilcolman at 12.30pm.

CAR DUST: From the weekend the people have awoken to find their cars and the ground covered in dust again. When the windows are washed the cloth used shows up yellow dust. This cannot be right and may be harmful to humans, livestock, pets etc. I have heard nobody complain in media circles and it may be confined to my area.
