Athea Golf Society made history at Newcastle West Golf Club on Saturday last when they won the inaugural running of the Observer Cup beating 10 other golfing societies in the process with a massive total of 284 points, 14 ahead of the nearest rivals. It was fantastic scoring on a day when the weather wasn’t all that favourable.
A great achievement for our local golfers and a fitting end to a good season. Congratulations to all concerned
Halloween Disco
Fancy Dress Halloween Disco on Sunday, October 30th from 6-8pm in the Memorial Hall, Athea. There will be a DJ on the night plus sweets and refreshments and spot prizes. All proceeds will go to the Athea Toddler Group. Admission €3 per child.
A reminder that the Toddler Group is on every Tuesday & Friday from 11.30-1.30. All are welcome or for more details ring Caroline on 085-7073948
Parish Journal
Last Call for material for the Journal. The deadline is Friday, October 28th.
Where possible we are asking people to submit articles, photo’s etc. via e-mail to [email protected] or on a USB key or disc.
There is an amount of work putting this production together and if we want to be out in good time for the Christmas post we have to start ASAP. If we don’t have enough by the closing date we will not be in a position to go ahead with the journal. We will have a new format which we hope you will like.
Athea set to host Top Class Fashion Show

Athea Road Race Club will hold a Fashion Show on Friday 4th November @ The Gables, Athea, Co Limerick to help raise funds for Athea Festivals 2012, included in which is Athea Road Races.
The night kicks off at 7pm with a Pink Champagne and Strawberry reception on arrival, along with music provided by a String Quartet.
Top Fashion houses from West Limerick and North Kerry will be parading their styles on the night, these will include Little Rascals, Abbeyfeale, Brides, Glin; Esther’s, Abbeyfeale ; Annette’s, Abbeyfeale, Glamorous, Listowel, Utopia, Listowel, Dress 2 Impress, Listowel, Everywoman, Listowel, Perfect Pairs, Listowel, Virgo, Newcastlewest and Scanlon’s Menswear, Newcastlewest.
Local models, both male and female, will strut their stuff on the night to an exuberant lighting and music display. Some local school going children will be modelling the latest communion wear for both boys and girls.
MC for the evening will be Jules, fresh from the fashion houses of Lanzarote.
Also available on the night will be a stand by Sinead Doyle to include Costume jewellery, handbags, knits etc. We would like to thank Sinead for sponsoring our Door Prize. Raffle Prizes on the night include hotel breaks away, costume jewellery, pottery, vouchers and much, much more. There will also be music at the interval by a local group. After the incredible night of Fashion, Limerick style, there will be live music in the bar by “Jules” who does a brilliant Neil Diamond Tribute Show and of course this will be followed by a late disco.
A night definitely not to be missed ! So Ladies get on your High Heels and make your way to The Gables for a Glitzy Night out this November !
