Sincere sympathy to Mary Ambrose, Tenekilla and her family on the death of her husband Pat last week. Pat had been unwell for a while. A huge crowd attended both the removal and the funeral Mass which was held on Monday last. May he rest in peace.

Many of you will have heard of Santiago de Compostela which is a place of pilgrimage in Spain. In recent years it has become popular to “do the Camino” which is to walk a distance to Compostela. I believe the whole long route is over 600k but it is more usual to walk the final 120k over 5 days. For a fit person it sounds like a great adventure in a sunny land. Rita O’Hagan, nee Enright from Clounleharde, is just back having walked the 100k from Sarria in Spain to the Cathedral in Compostela where it is believed the apostle St James (SanTiago) is buried. Rita is a great sun worshipper and was looking forward to a few lovely days bonding with her daughter Aoife. Well she accomplished her task and is back home in Dublin but informs me that it rained every single day. So she had to ditch the sunhat and take out the umbrella and raincape. They often had to stop and squeeze the water out of their socks such were the downpours. But, undaunted and with smiles on their faces the got to their destination. She was never more relieved than when she touched down on Irish soil again – rain or no rain. Well done Rita and Aoife. It was a true pilgrimage. Photo beneath. Rita’s husband, Brian O’Hagan, is a great adventurer also and some years ago sailed across the Atlantic with some friends. I wish them well in their future schemes and dreams.

I am enjoying hearing the cuckoo in Glenbawn. We can pretend it is summer even if the weather does not oblige.
