   BITS AND BOBS.

A few congrats this week to start off with. We send congrats to Louise Byrne and Michael McCarthy on the birth of their new baby boy they are naming Conor John. Congrats are also extended to the delighted grandparents Bertha Byrne in Templeathea and Anne and Michael McCarthy. Wishing them all the joys with their new little bundle.

Amy Ryan daughter of Claire and Roger of Lower Athea, celebrated her 21st birthday along with her family and friends at Brown Joe’s here in Athea on Saturday night last with everyone having a very enjoyable night, best of luck to Amy.

The death has taken place of Nancy Brouder (nee Woulfe) of Ballyhahill and formerly of Bridge House Athea who was pre-deceased by her husband Raymond. She passed away at UHL over the weekend. Nancy reposes in St Colman’s Church in Kilcoleman this Monday evening with burial on Tuesday in the local cemetery. Sympathy is extended to her sons and daughters and to her sisters Agatha and Birdie here in Athea and also Ellen -Anne, and to Rose Hayes in Templeathea along with her brother Neilie. May she rest in Eternal Peace.

Apologies, I included the Sacristans collection in last weeks notes whereas it will be taken up this weekend at the evening Mass. I’m sure everyone will agree that Siobhan and Teresa do tremendous work in our church much of it behind the scenes, they cant be thanked and complimented enough.

This weekend sees the 1st Communion taking place here in the church for the girls and boys of 2nd class. We hope they all have a lovely day and that the Sun shines out for them on their very special day .

Next Saturday evening June 1st sees a special Mass being celebrated for all those doing exams here in Athea. Margaret Carroll will have her youth choir taking part on this special occasion .We wish all those doing exams all the very best and hopefully they won’t be too stressed.

Well the beautiful weather we have had over the weekend has brought out the best in everyone and isn’t it great to see the turf machines out ,and also the silage outfits. A group of us walked from Ardagh last Sunday morning to Rathkeale on The Greenway  and it was just so lovely. Families out early with their kids on bikes and the parents walking or jogging, dogs on their leads many cyclists and the peace and tranquility, no traffic it’s just so nice. We are blessed to have such an amenity on our doorstep so avail of it and you can always stop off for teas and coffees and treats at one of the cafes -hotels along the way.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

We become much Happier when we realise life is an Opportunity rather than an Obligation.
