Sympathies this week to Paddy, Brian, Carol and the extended O’Hanlon family in Finnoe on the death of Christina last weekend. I remember Christina as a most glamorous woman working in Stacks chemist in Glin when I was going to school. Later I knew her as a kind, caring chiropodist in her own home. May she rest in peace.
When one is part of a drama group one can always expect drama. And so it was as the Abha Bhán Players treated themselves to a day in Clare last Saturday to celebrate a successful year.. The weather was lovely and sunny and perfect for the occasion. This was no ordinary day out because Eleanor had arranged a “Treasure Hunt” from Kilkee to Spanish Point and Miltown Malbay which involved walking, singing, reciting and swimming throughout the day before finishing off with dinner in the Belbridge Hotel and a singsong on the bus home. There was no time to even think of being bored. It was great fun and everybody thoroughly enjoyed it. They are a lovely bunch of people. Sadly not everybody could go but those that could were very glad they did.
The Parish Hall in Ballyhahill was once the National School which opened 150 years ago so a committee has been formed to celebrate that occasion. July 13/14 are the dates when celebrations take place. The school closed around 1959 so there are still many people around who would have spent some time there. They are all looking forward to the “School reunion.” All will be welcome whether you went to school there or not.
Knockdown Shop is kind of at a stand still for a while but no doubt it will sprout up quickly very soon. We are all waiting to have it back again. It is now 12 months since the fire.
