TADGH NAUGHTON: A Memorial Mass for the late Tadgh Naughton late of Skehanagh, Ardagh and London will be held in St Molua’s Church Ardagh on Saturday June 15. at 11.30am. The burial of ashes will be held afterwards in Kilscanell Cemetery. Sympathy to daughter Mandy, son Timothy, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters Eileen Greene, Catherine O’Sullivan, Mary Donoghue, extended family and friends. May he rest in Peace.
FARM SALE: Clare house and farm Kilcolman was sold by public auction by GVM Limerick on Wednesday May 29. The total of 190 acres plus house and outbuildings was sold in four lots realising € 4,150,000, which was one of the biggest agricultural land sales ever recorded in county Limerick. The late John Lane was a highly regarded dairy farmer and the estate was sold by the executors.
SENSORY GARDEN: Good progress is being made in putting in place the Sensory Garden in Carrigkerry beside the Playground. The committee deserve the praise of us all for their efforts in putting in place this very important facility for people to avail of. A replica of the Campaign House is also progressing next to it. Thanks also to the workers involved in putting this in place. Carrigkerry village is looking very well at present thanks to the work of the Community employment scheme.
ROADWORKS: Limerick Council have upgraded a section of roadway in Glensharrold connecting Carrigkerry to Kilcolman. It was many years since it received a coat of tar which had worn away in many places. There is another road nearby connecting to Scotland Bog which is badly in need of attention. Hopefully the Council may seem fit to resurface it before the next Election.
RÓISÍN FEATURED: The recently published Limerick Life lifestyle magazine has a five-page feature on Róisín Ambrose from Ardagh. It’s a nice feature by Siadbh Redmond dealing with family life the GAA and women’s sport getting the recognition it deserves. Róisín is a great role model who leads by example and continued success to her on the playing fields and beyond.
WEATHER FORECASTING: Ken Ring the famous New Zealand weather forecaster was on a Radio station recently and he forecast good summer weather. From the second week of June to the end of July would see the best of the weather with warm sunny days to look forward to. The improvement in May weather has seen great progress made with the long evenings being availed of. The silage season is in full swing, and the turf banks covered with next winters supply. The promise of a good summer will hopefully come to pass, and we can all enjoy its rewards.
FLEADH CHEOIL: Congratulations to all the local participants who competed in the County Fleadh Cheoil in Kilfinane over the June Bank Holiday weekend. Those that were successful progress to the Munster finals in Thurles in mid July.
BIRTHDAY WISHES: Congratulations and best wishes in the future to Timmy Woulfe Athea who recently celebrated his 90th birthday. His long rewarding and fulfilled life have been full of achievements and successes. Continued good health and happiness to Timmy who is an inspiration to us all.
NOONAN LIGHTS: The Noonan family recently revealed the proceeds from their Christmas Lights display as € 29,536. The charities to benefit are Milford Care Centre, Limerick Suicide Watch, Recovery Haven Tralee, Slí Elí Churchtown Cork
LADIES FOOTBALL: Limerick defeated Longford by 1-12 to 0-8 in round 1 of the All-Ireland Ladies Premier Junior Football Championship played in Pearse Park Longford on Sunday June 2. Sophie Hennessy, Róisín Ambrose 0-3 and Iris Kennelly 1-2 from the Old Mill club were members of the team.
GAELIC GAMES: St Kieran’s defeated Knockane by 0-17 to 0-16 after extra time in the County Junior B Football League semi final played at Rathbane on Thursday June 6.
Congratulations to Darren Dineen Ardagh who was the captain of the Munster team that won all three matches against Connacht, Ulster and Leinster in the M Donnelly Interprovincial Wheelchair League at the Omagh Leisure Centre Tyrone on Saturday June 1. The Munster round will be held in Mary Immaculate College Limerick on Saturday June 29.
POOL NEWS: Congratulations to Gavin and Kalen Ryder from Ardagh who members of the Limerick team were who participated in the All-Ireland Pool Championship in the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney over the June weekend.
LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery draw took place on Monday June 3.The numbers drawn were 5,9,17,22, and there was no winner of the € 5,400 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received € 40 each: Liam Kennedy Kilcolman, Tom Harnett Ardagh, M and E c/o Josie, Tommy Greaney Kilreash Ardagh, Caroline Mulcahy Kilscannell. Next week’s Jackpot will be € 5,500. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated. Both organisations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.
RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Kaelen O’Connor Newcastle West who won € 205 in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday June 7. The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry, and from the radio station. All support will be appreciated. CRECHE FUNDRAISER: Kilcolman Community Crèche located in West Limerick is a not-for-profit community Crèche and has been running since 2007. The Crèche provides essential childcare services to Kilcolman and a large number of surrounding areas. As the demand for after-school service continues to be high, in order to continue to meet the needs of the local community and surrounding areas the Board are looking to expand this service. They are currently fundraising with the goal to place a modular building on the site of the Crèche, which will cater for this group of children in their care. CHARITY MATCH: Creeves Celtic are holding a charity match at the Thatch Newbridge on Saturday June 22 at 2pm, in aid of Milford Care Centre. Creeves Celtic Ladies play Creeves Celtic Legends for the Conghaile Cup. People can donate to raise funds for this very deserving cause on their Facebook page.
FÉILE FUNDRAISER: Old Mill Ladies Under 15 football team will represent Limerick in the 2024 Féile na Gael in Moyle, Tipperary on Saturday June 29. It will be the third occasion for the club after competing in 1998 and 2014. The club are seeking donations to help cover the cost of their Féile journey. Any support will be greatly appreciated towards the cost of gear, transport and general expenses.
