I am glad to report that community spirit is alive and well in Ballyhahill. After a false start on August 3rd a meeting was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday last, August 17th to form a new committee to ensure the ongoing management of the Hall. This  time twenty two parishioners attended. Gerard Reidy, Kilteery spoke of how much work has gone into the Hall since the 1970’s when a lot of voluntary manual labour was put into building the front extension by his father and Paddy Griffin and other parishioners. “It would be a sin to see it closed now” he said. All agreed on this. Mike Walsh complimented the present committee for their work and he also complimented the Ballyhahill Development committee which was set up over a year ago on the wonderful work they have done in the village of Ballyhahill. All gave great praise to the excellent condition of the Hall at present.

After some debate and exchange of ideas some parishioners volunteered to form a committee and officers were nominated and elected as follows:

Chairperson:                         Maria O’Brien, The Hill, Ballyhahill

Vice chair                              Gerard Reidy, Kilteery

Secretary:                              Mary Stanley, Mohernagh

Treasurers:                            Brid Curtin and Eileen Scanlon –                                                     The Village

Some more parishioners promised to be involved and help to support these volunteers.

Tom O’Brien from Ballyhahill Development expressed his delight that a new committee was prepared to work together into the future.

Patsy Connell thanked the present committee for their dedication in the past.

The outgoing committee members are very happy to see new faces taking over the work that they have been doing for the past years. Thanks to all those who have worked on the committee in the past, many of them giving much of their time and many years.  Best of luck to the incoming committee who will be guaranteed full support from everybody.

Football fans will be treated to more excitement and nail-biting tension when Kerry and Mayo will meet again this Saturday evening after both playing their hearts out last weekend. May the best team win and may that team be ….? We wait and see.

Belated Happy Birthday to Han Geoghegan who celebrated 91 years recently. She and her husband Tomás are lucky to be still living together in their own home in Turraree surrounded by their loving families.
