‘Congrats’

Sincere congrats go this week to Leanne Higgins (daughter of Bernie and Pat), Glenagragra, Athea) who, on Friday last, was married to Jason Clifford of Mallow. Fr. Bowen was the chief celebrant along with Fr. Frank O’Neill. The bride was assisted by her twin sister Louise who acted as chief bridesmaid, along with her sister Lorraine who had travelled from Australia for the happy occasion. Other bridesmaids were Sandra McCarthy and Assumpta Bohan. The best man was Peter Doyle and the groomsmen wee Martin Clifford, Niall Kennedy and Liam Murphy. Everyone had a great day at The Malton Hotel in Killarney. The newly weds are honeymooning in Mexico. Wishing them all the best for the future.

Congrats are also extended to Michael and Marie Brosnan  on the birth of their baby girl Saoirse, a little sister for Gearóid. Congrats also to the proud grandparents here in Athea, Eileen and Micheál Brosnan.

We also extend congrats to Sharon O’Donnell of Templeathea who has become engaged to Cornelius Ambrose of Ballyhahill – wishing them every happiness.

All those who are receiving their Leaving Cert results on this Wednesday are wished all the very best and hopefully they will get the points relative to their chosen courses.

Well, Athea Parish Festival starts off this Friday night with the “Barman’s Race” at 9pm which should be exciting to say the least and the Comhaltas concert will take place from 8.10pm also on the night. Saturday 16th sees a Soccer Tournament at ‘The Vales’ and Sunday sees the Fancy Dress Parade at 1 o’clock from Helen Browne’s with prize-giving at the Hall – hopefully as many as possible will take part, adults and kids. It should be fun. A Céilí at the Hall is from 3-6pm and a barbecue at 9pm at Paul Collins’. There are posters in and around Athea showing the events up to Sunday 24th.

Well done to all those who did a great job cleaning up the Blessed Well this week, the 100th anniversary will be celebrated there in the near future.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the Aherne family of Parkanna on the death of Eileen at the weekend, following a short illness. Many came to pay their last respects at Kelly’s Funeral Parlour on Monday evening. Burial followed Requiem Mass to Holy Cross on Tuesday. ‘May the light of heaven be hers’.
