Last week I mentioned that the Knockdown shop was growing daily but to add to the excitement the petrol/diesel pumps are now working. It was such a pleasure filling up my tank there during the week. You pay by plastic card  – no cash option – but as Ta says most people pay by card now anyway, though I myself still prefer to deal in cash. I hate giving the bank anything and its the banks who gain from the cards. But we must move along with life as it evolves. Well done to Ta.

I had an interesting conversation with a friend lately re our use of google. When we want to know anything now we just google it and get the answer straight away. But remember the fun and the debate there used to be pre google. For instance if a group was sitting in a pub and one asked “what year were the Moving Statues in Ireland.”  “Oh, I remember it was the awful wet year with little heaps of silage under black plastic in corners of fields.” Or “ I remember my first born was just a year old.” Or “That was the year I lost three calves. The weather didn’t help.” Eventually we would agree that 1985 was the year but we would have had a lot more fun and resurrected more memories than just googling and have the answer in a few seconds. Does anyone agree?

I will know more next week.  Meanwhile Tarbert Theatre Players present “Separate Beds” by Sam Cree this coming Friday, Sunday and Monday in the Community Centre Tarbert at 8 pm. A weekend of celebration will be held in Ballyhahill on July 12, 13 and 14 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Ballyhahill National School which is now the Parish Hall as a new school was opened just further on in the Glin Road in the late 50’s I think. There are still people alive who went to the old school and I am sure they are looking forward to catching up and going over old memories and
