MEALS on Wheels Knockanure/Moyvane would like to let people know that the meals are not just for the elderly.  Anyone young or old can avail of the service.  We deliver 3 days a week, Monday for Monday & Tuesday, Wednesday for Wednesday & Thursday and Friday for Friday, Saturday & Sunday.  The service is handy for people who may be convalescing, after been in hospital or living alone or maybe just doesn’t like to cook.  The meals are €6 for an average size and €8 for a large.  The menu varies from week to week, there is soup and desserts if required.  If you have any queries please contact Claire on 068-49799 or 087-1656631.

DEATH of John G.  Carmody  of New Jersey, New York  & formerly of Meen Listowel  on April 20, 2024. He was born in Meen, Listowel , on May 10, 1941 to the late Nora and John Carmody.  John is survived by his wife Anne and his children, Ann, Bernice and John.  Also, his son-in-law Travis King and his daughter-in-law Rachel Carmody.  And his 5 grandchildren, the lights of his life, Victoria, Isabella and Michael Pagan and Maeve and John Carmody.  He is pre-deceased by his son-in-law John Pagan Jr. and his brother, Patrick Carmody. WEST Limerick meteorite; Dr Partick Roycroft, curator of geology at the National Museum of Ireland, who features on the show, spoke to the Limerick Post.

Dr Roycroft explained that on September 10, 1813, three pieces of rock fell from the sky and landed in a field in West Limerick.

“The National Museum of Ireland has the very largest piece, which weighs 69 and a half pounds – just over 27 kilos. It’s about the size of your head and it is the biggest fragment of a meteorite to hit Ireland or Britain in historic times,” he explained.

Several members of the Dail were subjected to Interruption during their speeches at a meeting held here yesterday by West Limerick Farmers’ Union in support of the demand for a two years’ moratorium on land annuity payments.

J. M. Dillon, T. D., said that the farmers’ group In the Dail had Introduced a motion calling for such a moratorium. He admitted that that was a very extreme course, but it was decided on after very careful consideration, and having regard to the fact that unless the farmers were granted Immediate relief their Industry would go down.

Dail Group’s Action. It was proposed to ask the Government during the two years to pay the interest out of taxation, the remainder of the money to be extended over the period of the repayment of

ICMSA: The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association (ICMSA) has claimed that farmers have been “led up the garden path” on a potential dairy reduction scheme.

The association’s comments come after Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue said that a reduction scheme for dairy cows is “off the table”.

A dairy cow reduction scheme – which has been referred to as a “cull scheme” by some stakeholders – was one of the recommendations in the final report of the Food Vision Dairy Group.

NATURE: All God’s creatures have a place in the choir” Walk in Templeglantine. A nature walk led by Michael Long Cabragh Wetlands is a Kiltegan Priest. On Monday the 6th May beginning at 3pm in Templeglantine Hall where the walk will begin to Devon Wood which is about 20 minutes away. People can come from other places along the greenway to join us at the Templeglantine end of the Devon wood where Fr Michael will speak to us. All are welcome.
