ATHEA WAS BUZZING

Well to say our little village was BUZZING over the past weekend would be putting it mildly as the build up to the Fund -Raiser for Carol O’Connor Liston was being organised and let me say , the amount of preparation and organisation that went into the weekend was nothing short of amazing. From the beautiful condition of the pitch and track and GAA grounds to the  amount of cakes, buns, goodies etc that were  given in by people to the volunteers who sorted out the one way traffic system, to all those who volunteered their time both young and parents etc who gave out teas and coffees which were very welcome considering the cold blustery day it was but thankfully dry, indeed to everyone who gave a helping hand in one way or another to make the day the huge success that it was. Parishioners were in awe watching in from various parts of the world and proud to be from our great little parish they said the helicopter that brought the referee, the cup and Carol and Liam’s 2 girls on board, enthralled all present. The match which ended in a draw incidentally was thoroughly enjoyed by all ,and well done to both teams who came out of retirement for the occasion. Hopefully the bones weren’t too sore after it. The day finished up with the auction at Brown Joes which attracted a huge crowd also. Here’s wishing Carol all the very best for the future ,again well done to everyone.

The next Bible Reading is this Wednesday night at the Library at 7.30 with the talk being on The Four Gospels. Everyone is welcome with a chat and a cuppa to follow. Sean and Pat will enlighten us all.

Sincere Sympathy is extended to Eileen Prendiville of Askeaton nee Hayes, of Fairy St. Athea, on the passing of her husband Mike recently .He was laid to rest on Monday last following Requiem Mass in Askeaton. May he rest in Peace.

I don’t know if anyone was watching RAISED BY THE VILLAGE on Sunday evening last. It’s where young people from inner city Dublin are taken in by a family in the country for a week and have to work on a farm etc and see what country life is like as their parents were having problems getting them to go to school and they were constantly on their phones and technology. The false eye-lashes and long nails weren’t long on and with phones being taken off them they weren’t too happy and up at daybreak milking cows etc and cleaning them out was a whole new experience .But at the end of the week they were actually crying going back home. It just shows if they are kept busy and no phones it works wonders for their outlook on life.

Thought For The Week

Ability is what you are capable of.

Motivation determines what you do.

Attitude determines how well you do it.
