  WHAT A COMMUNITY

Well anyone who was at Mass here in Athea on Sunday morning last was in for a really lovely display of a great community. From the beautiful Altar display which depicted St Bridget’s homeland to the Story of St Brigid’s life played out by some of our younger people in the parish. It was indeed brought to Life by those who took part. Of course the choir added the extra dimension as always. The brains behind this wonderful display and story can’t be complimented enough it was wonderful. The church was packed and many came also from the surrounding areas to witness the great story for which they can’t be praised enough. Again during the week, many got together in the church to learn how to make St Brigid’s Crosses which the children especially enjoyed. Well done again to the organisers. The big question now is what’s going to be on the agenda for St Patrick’s Day. I’m sure the heads will again come up with great ideas. Again what a wonderful get up and go community Athea has. The word has spread.

Again I would appeal to everyone who is out walking the roads no matter whether its day or night, to wear a high –vis jacket. We were coming from a funeral last week in Abbeyfeale and before we knew it we were nearly on top of an elderly man in the dark all dressed in black with a bag of shopping, so dangerous. I really think hi-vis should be made compulsory for everyone. Another thing I honestly think our children and young adults do not realise, you walk on the right hand side of the road and cycle on the left. Again today it was the opposite they were doing, maybe it should be drilled into them. Twenty dead already in a few weeks.

The death took place last week of Joan O’Halloran of Gortnagross, Athea. Joan was a real lady and no doubt will be sadly missed by her husband John and family. Many came to pay their last respects at Harnett’s Funeral Parlour Abbeyfeale. Requiem Mass was followed by burial in Holy Cross the following day. Sincere Sympathy to John, her husband, and family, relatives and many friends. May the light of Heaven be hers .

Beware of the many scams coming into phones these days from tolls to be paid though you may never have gone on a certain journey, to parcels needing a tax to be paid on, to people claiming to have lost their phones and the recent one which is so horrible asking a donation to watch a funeral through a webcam how low can one get.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

IT IS NEVER TOO LATE FOR A NEW BEGINNING

IN YOUR LIFE.
