BE READY

Well Storm Isha has passed thankfully with little or no damage locally. We were lucky in this area to have electricity throughout the violent gusts and torrential rain unlike other areas who had no electricity even up to this Tuesday. However we are going to have Storm Jacelyn  following in its path today Tuesday and we are told by our Weather Forecasters that frequent storms are going to be very common in the months ahead. We will be gone through every letter in the Alphabet very quickly naming the storms, f they continue as predicted. I suppose always keep the candles etc close at hand especially if you are elderly and if you know someone who lives on their own keep a check on them and if driving don’t take chances, Stay Safe is the thing.

Have you heard of SHRINKFLATION—- I’m sure everyone is aware of INFLATION especially these days with prices of everything gone through the roof. Well the new word means that everything is shrinking, bars of chocolate, tins of sweets especially the Xmas ones, bags of Tayto’s and a whole lot more .Everyone is getting less for dearer items, a sign of the times  I suppose.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Paddy, Marion and Jimmy Dalton on the passing of their Aunt Sr. Rosarii O’Sullivan who  was a nun with OLA in Ardfoyle Cork. She had reached a great age over 100 years and no doubt will be sadly missed by her Order and relatives . May the Light of Heaven Be Hers .

The sudden passing of Mike Dalton of Gortnagross was a great shock to his wife Margaret, brothers, sisters relatives and friends over the weekend. Many paid their respects at Finucane’s Funeral Home on Sunday evening last. Requiem Mass on Monday was concelebrated and burial took place in Holy Cross afterwards. Sincere sympathy to Margaret and all his relatives and friends.

Don’t forget these cold and wet winter days are ideal for avid readers who like nothing but a good book to read. You are welcome to call into the Community Hall when open and in the kitchen you can take away some books for free to read or indeed on the other hand you can leave books you have read for someone else to take. I find it a good idea to put one’s initials on the inside as sometimes you could realise you have already read a certain book and have forgotten you have read it. Our Hall is going to be 50 years open this year, a cause for celebration I’m sure, many remembering its opening by Erskine Childers those years ago.

Once again I’m appealing for an extension to the footpath on from Galeside. As I’ve said before a serious accident is going to happen on our Glin Road with the bend near the Sewerage LETHAL despite wearing Hi-Vis jackets. Thankfully Upper Athea has a lovely Footpath now with lights, also the Lower Road another asset by way of their footpath. Up the Abbeyfeale Road is good with a footpath a long way up so we need some walkway on the Glin Road even with a little entrance in by the River Walk at the side of the Sewerage Entrance. I know I’m always complaining about it but if one doesn’t voice the opinions of many walkers nothing will Happen . What’s happening now as those walking into Athea are crossing over to Tim Scanlon’s and walking at the wrong side of the road rather than the fear of being knocked down. My rant done now , hope it doesn’t fall on deaf ears.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

If TODAY YOU ARE A LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN YOU WERE YESTERDAY THEN THATS ENOUGH.
