CATHERINE MULLINS: The death has taken place of Catherine Mullins (nee Mc Inerney, Carrigkerry,  village, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Milford Care Centre, on Friday, November 17. Catherine was a native of Glin and wife of the late Michael. She was a homemaker and a private lady who had great faith. Her final months were challenging but she faced it with great fortitude. Reposing  took place at her home, where large crowds attended to pay their respects on Sunday  November 19, from 4pm, to 7pm. The Requiem Mass was concelebrated by  Canon Tony Mullins (brother-in-law), Fr. Michael Noonan, Fr. Willie Russell and  Fr. Martin Madigan at St Molua’s Church Ardagh on Monday at 11.30am. Family members participated during the ceremony and Fr, Tony paid tribute to Catherine for her love and devotion to all during his homily. Burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Sympathy to daughter Eva, son-in-law John, grand-daughters Tara and Rachel, sisters Eileen and Mairéad, (predeceased by her sister Joan), brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, all her other relatives, neighbours and friends. May she rest in Peace.

PATSY MADIGAN: The death has taken place of Patsy Madigan Lisgordan Ardagh peacefully at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home Newcastle West on Tuesday November 21. He was predeceased by his wife Chrissie (nee Murphy) from Athea in 1993. His remains reposed at Kieran Madigan’s Funeral Home Main Street Askeaton on Thursday November 23, from 5pm to 7pm. The Requiem Mass was concelebrated by Fr Tim Curtin, and Fr Muiris O’Connor Askeaton at 12 noon on Friday before a large attendance. Family members participated  in the ceremony and grandchildren Tara and Chrissie brought his camera and a copy of the current Weekly Observer containing his photograph to the altar before Mass commenced.

Fr Tim and son PJ paid lovely tributes to the departing Patsy who was born in Cork ( 1936)but from an early age lived in Lisgordan Ardagh. From Ballyclough near Buttevant the family moved to Limerick and Patsy attended the local school. From age 14 he worked for Colonel Cripps for 29 years. He was employed at Aughinish Alumina until he retired. He met his wife Chrissie at a dance in the Olympic Ballroom Newcastle West and they were married in 1964 and blessed with Doreen and PJ. They attended Stacks and later Moran’s Country Club Carrigkerry every Saturday night and enjoyed the dancing and social involvement.

Patsy took up photography in the 1980s and went on to become a regular supplier to the Weekly Observer/Vale Star newspapers. He was also their Ardagh/Carrigkerry news correspondent during the  early 1990s. He was also the Public Relations Officer for the St Kieran’s GAA Club in 1991. Patsy was an original  member of the Ardagh Development Association founded in January 1992. He promoted their events with written reports and photographs. He was involved in the running of the weekly Bingo game in Ardagh earlier and later associated with the Ardagh/Carrigkerry Social Club.

Patsy was laid to rest afterwards in the cemetery on a calm and dry November afternoon as the words of Down by Kilcolman Side rang out  sung by Donie Nolan. Sympathy to his daughter Doreen, son PJ, son-in-law Anthony, daughter-in-law Michelle, grandchildren Tara and Chrissie,  brothers Dan, John Joe, Timmy Jim and Kieran. He was obliging with his time and talents as a photographer and many benefitted as a result. People will cherish the memories created through the lenses of Patsy’s camera well into the future. May he rest in Peace.

COPSE’S LIGHTS: The Copse family Glensharrold Christmas Light’s display was switched on last Saturday November 25, at 5pm by Councillor Tom Ruddle Newcastle West. Fr Tony Mullins  blessed the lights, and the children present enjoyed the  treats and display. The Carrigkerry Wren group performed before and after the switch on. The charities to benefit this year will be Milford Hospice and the children’s Ark Unit UHL both based in Limerick City. SOCCER NEWS: In the Desmond Premier Division Creeves Celtic defeated Glin Rovers 2-1 away on Sunday November 19. James O’Connor and Aaron Gillane scored their goals. Carrig Celtic defeated Glantine B 2-1  at home in Division 3 with goals from Seanie King and Cyprian Myska. Kilcolman Rovers had no match. In Division 1 of the Desmond Ladies League Creeves Celtic lost 3-0 at home to Feenagh. Kilcolman Rovers had no match.

GAELIC GAMES: St Kieran’s lost to Father Casey’s by  1-14 to 0-5 in Round 1 of the County Under 21 Football Championship  played at Mountcollins on Friday November 24. They trailed by 0-9 to 0-3 at half time. Team Con Enright, Shay Greaney, Aaron Heffernan, Cillian Heffernan, Lorcan Murphy, Shane Fitzgerald, Sean Long, Cormac Mann, Sean Ryan, Mikey Long, Cathal Mc Enery, Fionn Gleeson,  Conor Woulfe, Darragh Mc Mahon, Tom Mc Mahon. Subs Oisin Ryan, Patrick Ambrose,  Jack Mulqueen.

CLUB DRAW: The  Limerick GAA Club draw was held on Saturday November  25,  and announced on the Sports Show on Limerick Live 95. St Kieran’s had no winner this month.  The two remaining draws will be held on Saturday December 16, and Saturday January 6.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery   draw took place on Monday November 20.The numbers drawn were 5,19,22,30 , and  there was  no  winner of the € 15,500 Jackpot. Congratulations  to the five lucky dip winners who received  € 40 each, James Woulfe Ardagh, John Buston Coolcappa, Frances Mc Carthy Askeaton, Ciara Moroney Coolcappa, Kieran Madigan Junior Ballyvoughan Ardagh. Next Monday night’s jackpot will  be € 15,600. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.  Both organizations wish to thank all the people for their continued support.

RADIO DRAW: Congratulations to Joe Carr, Old Mill who won € 275, in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday November 24.The tickets cost € 2, or 3 for € 5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys Carrigkerry, and Denis Greaney’s Shop Ardagh) or from the radio station. CLOTHES COLLECTION: Kilcolman NS are holding a fundraising clothes collection on Wednesday November 29. Bags of clothes, shoes, bags, belts, bed linen(no duvets or pillows) can be dropped to the school shelter any time before this date. Thank you for your continued support.

JOB VACANCY: The board of management  of St Molua’s NS. Ardagh, invites applications for the post of part time school cleaner/ caretaker. The duties will include cleaning , general care taking and maintenance of premises and grounds. Previous experience in a previous role is an advantage.  The position will be for 10 hours per week over 5 days. Letter of application should be sent by post, addressed to the Chairperson , Board of Management, St Molua’s NS. Ardagh. The closing date is Friday December 1.

RAMBLING HOUSE: A rambling house will be held at Jims Rambling House Newbridge on Friday December 1, at 8.00pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers, dancers and listeners  are welcome to attend.

FILM CLUB: Newcastle West Film Club present  ”Empire if Light”  in the Desmond Complex Newcastle West on Friday December 1, at 8pm. Admission € 8 and refreshments available. All are welcome.

SINGING CLUB: The West Limerick Singing Club will hold their last singing session for 2023, on Friday December 1, at the Ramble Inn, from 8.30, with special guest Brigid Delaney.

CHRISTMAS MARKET: A Christmas Market will be held at Carrigkerry Community Centre ( V94VY92 )  on Sunday December 3 from 10am to 3pm. The organisers invite all to join them for arts, crafts, gifts and much more from the stalls. € 5 entry, refreshments and raffle. All support will be appreciated, and the proceeds will go towards the running of Carrigkerry Community Centre.

SET CÉILÍ: A set Céilí will be held in Cois na hAbhna, Ennis  on Sunday December 3,  from 3-6pm. Music by Donie Nolan and Taylors Cross Band, tea served, and it is an outstanding venue for all dancers including the West Limerick people who frequent it.
