Notice to Track Users

A reminder to all dog owners that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times whilst using our facilities. It has come to our attention that some dogs have been allowed to roam freely at the pitch which has resulted in damage to our facilities. If the problem persists we may have to take the unpopular decision to ban dogs completely. Your support with this matter is appreciated.

U11 Billy Kirwan Football Tournament St Senans:

We travelled to Foynes on Sunday morning to play in the Billy Kirwan tournament. We played

Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan in our first game and we played very well, kicking some great scores to win. We then played St. Senans in the cup final after they had beaten Shannon Gaels in their first match. We started well and kicked the first score of the match however as the match went on a much stronger St. Senans team started to dominate and won out well in the end. Thanks to St. Senans for organising a great tournament and thanks to the parents and players for travelling.

U13 Division 3 County Football Final:

Athea 1:07 Monagea 2:03

We travelled to Mick Neville Park Rathkeale on Saturday morning last to take on Monagea in the County Final. We had already played Monagea twice in the leagues and a play-off with only a kick of a ball separating the teams so we knew this was going to be another tight game and it didn’t disappoint. We started the game well with Aaron Broderick kicking the first 2 points of the game. We were on top for the majority of the first half however we kicked a lot of wides during this period. Monagea scored a point in their first attack and scored a goal with their second attack around the mid-way stage of the first half. Athea responded immediately with a point on the run from the electric Shane Ahern and a long distance goal from the hard working Mark Collins leaving the score at half time 1:02 to 1:03 in Athea’s Favour having played with the wind. We started the second half brightly again with a point from Aaron Hunt, however Monagea were now starting to find their

rhythm and scored a goal from their full forward to leave us trailing by one point mid-way through the second half. Daniel Hunt and Mark Collins kicked two scores to put us back in the lead however Monagea to their credit never gave up and hit the crossbar and post in the last 8 minutes. Monagea drew level with about 4 minutes remaining and were unlucky not to score another goal with minutes remaining only for a fine save from Eoin Ahern in goals and some heroic defending from our full back line. In the final minute we managed to work the ball to our corner forward Shane Ahern who turned his man and raced towards goals only to be fouled on the 21 yard line, up stepped our captain Daniel Hunt to slot the free over the bar with the final whistling sounding seconds later to the relief of the large crowd of Athea supports. This was an epic final between two great teams with Athea delighted to be in the lead when the final whistle was blown. Great credit is due to the Monagea Team, Management and supporters for a sporting game of football and excellent atmosphere with never more than 2 points separating the teams at any stage. Congratulations to the Athea panel of 23 players who have trained hard all year, improved with every game and always try their best in every match until the final whistle. We wish this same group of players the very best in the Hurling County Final next Saturday as they aim for a historic double for the Athea club.

Panel: Eoin Ahern, Jamie Brosnan, Daniel Broderick, Tony Ambrose, Cathal Fitzgerald, Jack Leahy, Paddy O’Connor, Daniel Hunt, Mark Collins, Tom Mullane, Aaron Broderick, Tadhg Hunt, Aaron Hunt, Kane Brouder, Shane Ahern, Conor Leach, Joe Scanlon, John Ahern, Se Ahern, Liam og Reidy, Nathan Ambrose, Oisin McCarthy, Eoin Kenrick.
