BERNADETTE  FOLEY:  The death took place of Bernadette (Bernie) Foley, Milltown, Askeaton and late of the Cottages, Ardagh, suddenly at University Hospital, Limerick on Saturday, February 11. Predeceased by her brother Mike, sisters Mary and  Nora. Reposing took place at Madigan’s Funeral Home, Shanagolden on Wednesday, February 15 from 6pm to 8pm. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Molua’s Church, Ardagh on Thursday at 11.30am, followed by Cremation at Shannon Crematorium. Sympathy to her husband Frank,  son Stephen, daughters Sarah, Ciara, (Madigan), Niamh, son-in-law Senan, partners Norma,  Tom, Kevin, grandchildren Tadhg, Tiernan, Tommy, Joey, brother Patrick,  sisters Helen, Breda, and extended family members. May she rest in Peace.

CONFIRMATION: The boys and girls of Coolcappa/Kilcolman will receive their Confirmation from Bishop Leahy in St. Colman’s Church, Kilcolman at 11.30am today Ash Wednesday.  Best wishes to all involved.

CHURCH CEREMONIES: Mass  for Ash Wednesday will be celebrated in St. Molua’s Church, Ardagh and in St. Kyran’s Church, Coolcappa  on Wednesday, February 22, at 9.30am. Mass will be celebrated in St. Colman’s Church, Kilcolman at 7.30pm and there will be no Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Carrigkerry. Blessed ashes will be available for collection in Ardagh and Carrigkerry  churches on Ash Wednesday.

AUTUMN MELODIES: It has been announced that the fundraising CD Autumn Melodies by Theresa Doyle McMahon and Siobhán Doody last autumn has raised  from sales to date close to €9,200. The proceeds from the CD was in aid of the Friends of St. Ita’s who recently donated new equipment costing close on € 50,000 to St. Ita’s Hospital Rehab Department. The CD is still on sale at the usual outlets for people to purchase.

SIGERSON CUP: St. Kieran’s club player John Hayes was a member of the UL football team that were defeated  by UCC 1-16  to 0-16  after extra time in the  final of the Sigerson Cup played in WIT Sports Campus Waterford  on Wednesday, February 15. John was  involved in all five matches, starting the last three at corner forward and contributing on the scoreboard. The match was shown live on TG4.

GAELIC GAMES: St. Kieran’s club players Craig MacInnes, Sean Ryan and Lorcan Murphy were members of the Limerick Under 20 football team and panel who defeated Tipperary by 2-8 to 0-10 in Round 1 of the Liam O’Connor Cup played at the Bog Garden Rathkeale on Saturday February 11. In Round 2 they lost to Clare by 2-14 to 0-5 at Quilty on Saturday February 18.

LADIES FOOTBALL: Old Mill players Roísín Ambrose (Captain) 0-3, and Sophie Hennessy were members of the Limerick team that defeated Wicklow by 3-6 to 0-8 in Division 4 of the National Ladies Football League played in Balltinglass Wicklow on Sunday, February 12. Iris Kennelly and Alva Quaid were unavailable.

SOCCER NEWS:  In the first round of the Desmond Cup played on Sunday February 12, Creeves Celtic lost 3-0 at home to Ballingarry and Carrig Celtic lost at home by 3-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw after extra time. In Division 1 of the Desmond Ladies League Creeves Celtic drew 3-3 at home with Feenagh, with Amy Hanrahan scoring two and Caoimhe O’Connell scoring.

LOTTERY DRAW: The Ardagh Development Association and Saint Kieran’s GAA joint weekly lottery   draw took place on Monday, February 13. The numbers drawn were 3,10,16,19, and  there was  no  winner of the €11,500 Jackpot. Congratulations to the five lucky dip winners who received  €40 each:  Bobby, Denis, Jen, Woulfe, Ardagh, Phoebe Sheehy, Ardagh, Anne Molyneaux, Ardagh, c/o Josie, Conor O’Mahony, Croagh, (Online), Katie Woulfe, Ardagh (Online). Next Monday night’s jackpot will  be €11,600. People can play online using club force on the club’s Facebook page, with 6pm on Monday evening the deadline. The tickets are also on sale at the usual outlets, and all support will be appreciated.

RADIO DRAW:  Congratulations to Mary Connors, Newcastle West  who won €320, in the West Limerick 102fm 50/50 draw, held on Friday February 17. The tickets cost €2, or 3 for €5 and they are available from volunteers, in local shops, (including Moloneys  Carrigkerry, and Denis Greaney’s Shop Ardagh) or from the radio station. ROUNDERS: St Kieran’s GAA Rounders are seeking new members to join them and get involved  for plenty of fun and exercise. CLOTHES COLLECTION: Kilcolman national school will hold a fundraising clothes collection on Friday, February 24. The usual list of items (no duvets or pillows) can be dropped to the school shelter  before collection date. The school thank all for their continued support.

HISTORY TALKS: Rathkeale Historical Society next monthly talk will be held on Friday, February 24, at 8.30pm in the Community Arts Centre, New Line, Rathkeale The talk will be given by Matthew Potter Limerick Museum and the title will be ‘The Munster Princes: the Earls of Desmond 1329-1583.’ All are very welcome to the very popular talks held over the winter months and admission is free.

AWARDS NIGHT: Old Mill ladies football club will hold an awards night for their victorious Under 14, Under 16 and senior players on Saturday, February 25, in the Silver Dollar at 8pm. The club are holding two registration meetings in their Old Mill clubhouse, Eircode: V42TO43 on Friday, March 24 from 6-8pm and Saturday, March 25 from 10am to 12 noon. The deadline for membership  is that Saturday.

PUB QUIZ: Kilcolman Rovers soccer club are holding a fundraising quiz in Neary’s Bar, Ardagh on Saturday, February 25 at 9pm. A table of 4 costs €20. A medal presentation for the boys under 16 team that won last year’s Desmond League will be held. Your support will be appreciated.

CONCERT:  A concert featuring the Carrigkerry Wren Group will be held in the Community Hall, Ardagh at 8pm on Friday, March 3. The line up also includes other local artists to be announced. A raffle with a wide variety of prizes will be held. The door admission is €10 with underage concession. This fundraiser is in aid of the St. Kieran’s new field development fund. A great night’s entertainment is looked forward to.
