U8 Girls

Our super U8’s played 3 great matches against Glin last Wednesday evening, great fun was had! Well done to all and keep practicing those skills.
Our U8’s will play their last game away to Fr Casey’s this Wednesday night 28th September in Abbeyfeale at 6.30pm

U10 Girls
Our U10 girls will play their final game against Gerald Griffins this Saturday at 10.30am in Ballyhahill.

Junior Ladies
Our Junior Ladies exited the championship on Sunday morning against a determined Ahane team. Despite dominating possession they trailed at half time 4 pts 3 pts, having registered double digits on the wide count.
Athea levelled the game just after half time but the killer blow came minutes later with a well taken goal by Ahane. Athea never gave up till final whistle  but countless saves by the Ahane keeper and good defending managed to keep them out.

Many thanks to Mike Reidy for the hours he put in preparing this team, assisted by David O’ Connor and Liz O’ Sullivan.
There is great youth coming through and this team has a bright future.

Junior Men’s

After a gallant effort, Athea were beaten by Croom last Saturday in round 5 of the Junior A Football Championship finishing Athea 3-09 Croom 3-15. Croom now progress to the Semi Finals, with a quarter final spot awaiting Athea. Athea will play Cappamore in the quarter final on Saturday October 1st in Ballybrown at 3pm. Go n-éirí an t-adh libh!

U17

Áth an tSléibhe  0-4  Drom/Broadford 4-10

This was or final group game against one of the top teams in the group played in Dromcollogher. After three wins in a row, we were hopeful of pushing them all the way for the last remaining place in the county championship semi final. We were dealt a blow before the game with two of our players out injured and  another sick, which weakened our hand somewhat. Despite conceding an early goal we competed well for the first quarter, working very hard and matching our opponents all over the field. but gradually they began to get on top as we tired. The boys tried their best right to the finish in what was a difficult night. Beidh lá eile againn.
We finished the league programme in joint 3rd place with Croom and St. Kierans, so a play off was required to see which two would go through to the County  Div 2 shield semifinal. We were drawn against Croom, which was to be played last Sunday morning in Glin, but we got a walkover, so we are straight into the County semifinal. We will be playing the 4th place team in Div 2b, but we have no date yet. Training is continuing.Foireann v Drom/Broadford.
