 OUT AND ABOUT

Sincere sympathy is extended to the sisters of the late Timmy Murphy, Eileen, Mary, Chrissie, Josephine and Nora along with relatives and many friends and neighbours in Knockfinisk and beyond. Timmy passed away at Milford Hospice and was predeceased by his wife Phyllis earlier this year. Many came to pay their respects at Kelly’s funeral parlour on Tuesday evening last. Requiem Mass on Wednesday was followed by burial in Newcastlewest. May the light of heaven be his.

The passing of little baby Maya Scanlon was deeply regretted by all relatives friends and neighbours of the Brady family of Upper Athea and Newcastlewest, and especially her parents Shannon Brady and her partner Shane Scanlon along with their other little girl Aoife. Mass was celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday last. May she fly with the Angels in Heaven.

Well done to Teresa O’Halloran and Hannah Mai Collins who did a beautiful display on our church altar in conjunction with The Season of Creation which goes on until 4th October. It is well worth a visit  and reminds us of the beauty and splendour of the land that surrounds us.

David Horgan has resurrected Jesse James pub in Asdee. It is no longer a pub but David has done great work since coming home from Australia and has kept all the traditional look inside and outside. This Sunday he is doing a fund-raiser with all proceeds going to abc’s rice Cambodia of which David was a Volunteer 11 years ago. All donations will be well spent. Horgan’s garage is sponsoring a sausage sizzle, and there will be a big pot of Cambodian Soup. Everyone is welcome, kids also and you are asked to don your Cowboy outfits and there will be prizes for the best dressed. Bon Voyage to David as he heads to Asia soon for 6 months. Everyone welcome for a fun day.

Your final chance to purchase a 50 Euro ticket for the GAA draw with some great prizes with the first draw taking place this Saturday. There will be a total of 5 draws over 5 months. There are great things in the pipeline for the pitch and walking-track and it’s with everyone’s help by purchasing a ticket that this work can be done. CCTV hopefully is to be installed which makes the track extra safe also music will greet you as you walk-run the track. With the long darker days fast approaching it will be ideal for everyone to get out in the evenings and go to the pitch where extra lights are going up. Put on a jacket, meet a friend, be safe you will warm up and at the same time you will be sparing your home heat and electricity the club reminds us. At the end of the day you could be Lucky and win one of the great prizes and it only has cost you 1 Euro a week. You will also be getting fit.

Thought For The Week:-

Change is not merely necessary to life-it is life.
