Athea GAA

Well as you can imagine there is nothing going on in the GAA circles at this point in time. However, on Saturday night next 16th December, a “Commemoration Night” will be held at the Top of the Town starting at 7.30pm. Everyone is invited to come along to re-live the 1997 County Junior A Football final which Athea won against Drom/Broadford which had to be played no less than ‘3’ times. I remember it will – it went on nearly up to Christmas – between 2 drawn games in Tournafulla and then the 3rd in Abbeyfeale. It was the longest football final ever played and even the 3rd game went to extra time – it was unreal – nearly dark when it finished. Celebrations went on for quite some time after, as you can imagine. So it would be nice to re-live the game again on the big Screen after 20 years. There will be finger food and DJ afterwards.

It would be great this year, with the boys doing their gym training and a new trainer if they could get a ‘grand final’ under their belts. We look forward in anticipation to the Club’s 1968 celebration after 50 years this coming year and to the 1997 – 20 years celebration to be included.

Here’s to the teams of 2018!, we live in hope.
