‘Congrats’

Sincere congrats are extended to Meghan Carroll, School Road, Athea who recently celebrated her 21st birthday along with her family and relations at The Silver Rooms in Newcastle West. A great night was enjoyed by everyone – it was an exciting week for Meghan who also, during that week, was awarded a Sports Scholarship. Wishing her all the best for the future “in the sporting world”.

Best wishes and heartiest congrats are also extended to Tim Enright of Templeathea (son of Timmy and Joan) who, on Friday last, was married to Amy Richardson. Fr. Tony Mullins celebrated the nuptial mass in Killarney Cathedral. Michelle Keating was the maid of honour and the bridesmaids were Sarah and Grace Richardson and Fiona Lacey. The best man was Tommie Enright and groomsmen were Sean Liston, Jack Broderick and Matthew Tierney. The flowergirl was Bríd Enright and the pageboy was Brion Cullen. The newlyweds held their reception at The Malton Hotel and they are honeymooning in London. All the best for the future.

A great day was enjoyed by all who attended the Going Strong Christmas party on Wednesday last at the Top of the Town. All enjoyed the lovely meal, the music, song and dance. Well done to all those who helped make it the success that it was and helped out on the  day and to all those who gave spot prizes.

Grandparents Day will be held on Thursday 21st December with mass at 12 noon followed by refreshments in the school afterwards – this is always a lovely day so hopefully the grandkids will enjoy it as much as us.

The AGM of Athea Credit Union will be held on Friday 22nd December at 7pm in their Athea office. All members are invited to attend, where they can ask questions or give various opinions.

Well as I write my few lines on this very cold Sunday night with a forecast of minus 8° forecast in places for tonight, we should maybe think of those who have “no roof over their heads” and try to imagine how cold they must feel. Hopefully we won’t get too many days of freezing conditions.

Well done to the U16 boys basketball team who, on Saturday last, travelled to Glenbeigh and had a great victory over Glenbeigh. The U18 boys had a great victory on Friday night v St. Brendan’s, Tralee and the U17 girls on Saturday night v St. Joseph’s.  – congrats to the players and trainer Trish Aherne.

Thought for the Week:-

‘Every child should go to bed “excited” on Christmas Eve – not all do’.
