Athea GAA

All Ireland:

Well, what can one say about Mayo losing by just 1 point to Dublin on Sunday last – it was so hard for all the Mayo fans to take. Athea GAA Chairman Paul Curry – a Mayo man, was once again left utterly disappointed as were the many Athea enthusiasts – however, they hopefully “will live to fight another battle”.

Draw:

The next leg of the ‘500’Club draw will be held on the 30th September at Donie Lyons’ Bar. (there are still 5 more draws to go and if you now want to join in the draw you can do so by contacting any of the GAA committee). Also on the night along with the draw the medals will be given out to the U21s team from last season.

1968 Team:

Well the “50th” anniversary of the great 1968 Athea County final will be coming up in 2018, which isn’t too far away at all. It is hoped to have a grand celebratory night with all the 1968 team in attendance. So if any of the team are overseas, you can spread the word and when a date is set they can put it in their diaries and hopefully make it to the celebration.
