Athea GAA

GAA History:

Jamie Kelly of Clash has agreed to interview people and put together a booklet on the history of Athea GAA as its coming up to the anniversary of the club. There are many knowledgeable individuals in the parish who know so much about past matches, players, incidents that occurred and so much more. If anyone out there wouldn’t mind doing a short interview with Jamie they might let  Chairman Paul Curry know or indeed any of the committee.

As it would be lovely to have this keepsake in years to come names that have been mentioned with an abundance of past GAA knowledge in Athea are Johnny and Conor Mullane, Billy Collins, Sean Hanrahan, Seanie Connors, Tom O’Keeffe, Timmy Woulfe. If anyone can think of anyone else who might give a few minutes of their time to help Jamie in his search for information you might come forward, it would be great.

Championship:

Athea will have their 1st Championship game against Castlemahon at the end of next week. The date and time has still to be confirmed. We wish them well in this first game.

Sympathy:

Sympathy is extended by the club to Margaret O’Connor, Upper Athea and Jerry Brouder of Templeathea on the death in England of their sister.

U14s:

Congrats and well done to the Athea U14s boys who played against Shannon Gaels on Monday evening last in Ballyhahill. They had an outstanding game and the scoreline of 6-10 to 1-2 showed this.

Team: Gearóid O’Sullivan, Pierse O’Brien, James Lee, Cillian O’Connor, Dermot Pierse, Andrew O’Riordan, Eoin O’Shea, Brandon Finucane, Conor Mullane, Daire O’Shea, Michael Walsh, Callum Buckley, Gavin Ambrose, T.J. Hunt, Evan Curry, James Broderick.

Cards:

The final card game of the season took place at the Top of the Town on Monday night last. The club extends a sincere thanks to everyone who supported the games during October until now. Hopefully the cards will be back again in the Autumn – see you then.
