The following are the Lottery results from Moore’s Bar, Carrigkerry on Monday July 18th. The numbers drawn were, 22, 25, 28, and there was no Jackpot winner. The Texel Sheep Breeders Society held their south west area field evening on the farm of John and Mary Ita Keane and son Diarmuid, Grouse Lodge, Ardagh, on Friday, July 15th. The event was informative with talks and demonstrations for the attendance of over 130

A collection in aid of the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West was taken up in Ardagh/Carrigkerry parish on the weekend of July 16/17. The facility opened in December 2016 and over the years it has become a wonderful success. A lot of parishioners have visited and availed of the services provided in the modern building that is architecturally designed to make the most of natural light and space. The Daycentre boasts a casual, easy going atmosphere for people who come to socialise and avail of the other activities and services provided. They include: transport to and from the centre, morning tea and coffee, Bingo, Cards, Music and entertainment, a three course meal, afternoon tea and coffee, shower facilities and aerobics. Congratulations to Jim Lynch and Peg Mulvihill who were prize winners at the card game held in Shanagolden Community Hall on Friday, July 15th.

Congratulations to Mikey Conlon, Creeves Celtic, who was a member of the Republic of Ireland U-16 squad that won the Mayo International Soccer Cup Tournament held recently in Castlebar. Congratulations also to Sophie Liston, daughter of Stephen, who has been called up to the FAI U-15 Munster Trials.

Granagh/Ballingarry defeated Saint Kieran’s by 1-9 to 0-7 in the West Junior B Football Group 2 Round 3 encounter at Sean Finn Park Rathkeale on Wednesday, July 13th.

Saint Kieran’s defeated Drom/Broadford by 4-18 to 0-2 in Round 2 of the West Minor Football Championship in Coolcappa on Friday, July 15th.

Saint Kieran’s lost to Newcastle West by 1-11 to 1-8 in the West Senior Football Championship Final played in Abbeyfeale on Sunday, July 17th. They led by 1-6 to 0-7 at half time, but could only add two more points against the wind and hill in the second half. The sides were level with the final whistle approaching but a late goal sealed victory for the magpies. Saint Kieran’s play Drom/Broadford in Group 1 Round 3 of the County Senior Football Championship in Newcastle West on Thursday 28th July at 7.15. In round 1 they defeated St Patrick’s and in round 2 they drew with Oola and they also play Na Piarsaigh and Ballylanders in the other group matches.

The 11th annual Know Your Neighbour initiative promoted by Macra Na Feirme is ongoing at present. Communities nationwide are asked to organise an event during the months of July and August, to encourage neighbours to get to know each other better. Community is the backbone of our society and it is very important that people build relationships within our rural and urban communities. Any group or individual planning an event should register for an organisers pack at www.knowyourneighbour.ie  The pack will include helpful ideas, posters, T-shirts and balloons to help make the event a success. Ideas for events include barbeque, picnic, family fun days to get people together to get to know each other.

The Comhaltas Summer Seisiún traditional entertainment shows continues at the Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine, each Thursday during July and August. The show commences at 8.45pm and it will be followed by an informal session where visiting musicians, singers and dancers are welcome to participate. The best of traditional music, song, storytelling and dance will be on display and all are welcome to attend. The entrance fee is €15 and all are welcome especially visitors from abroad.

The Irish Palatine Heritage Centre in Rathkeale is currently open to visitors from 2pm to 5pm each Sunday during the months of July and August and all are welcome.

The Mount Trenchard house and garden will be open daily for the months of July and August from 9am to 1pm.

 

Donie Nolan from Kilcolman, who recently launched his first traditional solo CD the Banks of the Abba Bhán, is receiving good airplay from the local Radio Stations at present. It has been featured a lot by Jackie O’Connor, on the Trad Scene. Last Saturday night it was featured on Ceili House presented by Kieran Hanrahan on RTE Radio 1 with Patneens Slide, (after Patneen Ahern, fiddle player from Glenagore) the track that was featured. Donie had another launch in Milltown Malbay during the Willie Clancy Summer School.

The annual graveyard Mass will be celebrated in Saint Molua’s Cemetery on Monday 1st August at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

Mass will be celebrated at Ballyine Mass Rock on Friday 5th August at 8pm, and all are welcome to attend. It was first celebrated there on Sunday, August 15th 1954 by Fr John Fitzgibbon C.C. Ardagh/Carrigkerry and approximately 2,000 were in attendance.

Shanagolden Community Council are doing great work around the village, and at Tim Madigan Park at present. Their next fundraiser will be a special monster bingo night (€4,000) on Tuesday 2nd August. They will have two other bingo nights on Tuesday 6th September and Tuesday 4th October. All support from bingo players will be most welcome.

As A Matter of Fact, by Eamon O’Riordan, will be launched by Jerome Scanlon in Castlemahon Community Hall on Wednesday 3rd August at 8pm. It is a compilation of stories written by his father the late Michael O’Riordan from Feohanagh, who was the parish correspondent for the local newspapers. The proceeds from the sale of this large book will be donated to Milford Hospice.

The West Limerick Singing Club are holding their monthly singing session in the Ramble Inn, Abbeyfeale on Friday 5th August commencing at 9.30pm. All singers, storytellers and listeners are most welcome to come along and to enjoy the proceedings.

A charity Céilí in aid of the Irish Cancer Society will be held in Knockaderry Resource Centre, on Friday 5th August. Music by the Striolan Céilí Band from 9.30pm to 1am, spot prizes will be given out and teas will be served. All support will be greatly appreciated.
