West Junior B Football League:
Thursday March 31:
Athea 0-02 Gerald Griffins 2-09
Our Junior Bs travelled to Coolcappa to take on St. Kierans in the second round of the West Junior B Football league. The home side opened the scoring with a point but we were soon level when Pa Kiely tapped over a free after Padraic Walsh had been fouled. St. Kierans went ahead again when they rose the white flag but a point from the boot of Brian Ahern had the sides all square with ten minutes left to the break. We had a couple of goal scoring opportunities at this stage but we failed to convert any of them, but it was St. Kierans who finished the half stronger and went in at half time ahead on a scoreline of Athea 0-02. St. Kierans 0-04. We never really got going in the second half as the home side kept the score board ticking over, running out easy winners at the final whistle. Athea 0-02. St. Kierans 2-09. Team: John Geoghegan, Jason Dalton, Kevin Mahony, Paul Mahony, Eoin McCarthy, Tommy Quaid, Jason Kelly, Garry Carroll, Padraic Walsh, Neilo Keane, Pa Kiely, Sean Ahern, EmmettWhite, Philip Collins, Brian Ahern. Subs: Dan McMahon, Joey Kelly, Brian Murphy, Padraig O’ Sullivan, Morgan O’ Connor, Thomas Brosnan.
