U21 County Premier Football Championship:

Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 2-13      St. Patricks 2-11

Our U21s had a hard fought win over city side St.Patricks in Mick Neville Park on Friday night last. It was St. Patricks who got of to the better start and had two points on the scoreboard after five minutes. We responded well with Mikie O’Mahony, Matthew Brouder and Shane Mulvihill and scoring points to give us a one point advantage. The city side dominated for the next fifteen minutes, kicking six points on the trot to bring their tally to eight points. We came back again just before the break scoring three great points from Gary Vaughan, Mikie O’Mahony and a Shane Mulvihill free which left the score at half-time Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 0-06, St. Patricks 0-08. We started the second half brightly and we were awarded a penalty when Kevin Murphy was pulled down inside the box. Shane Mulvihill converted the penalty but the city side hit back and scored two points to lead by one after five minutes of the half. A point each from Mikie O’Mahony and Shane Mulvihill was followed by a great goal by Stephen Cahill which seemed to settle the team. Points from Shane Mulvihill, Matthew Brouder and a brace from James Ryan had us in control as we were eight points ahead. Then the opposition scored a point and were then awarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by Jonathan Fitzgerald and went over the bar for a point. A pointed free from the boot of Shane Mulvihill had us seven points ahead with five minutes left on the clock. Jonathan Fitzgerald was called upon again and made an excellent point blank save but St. Patricks continued to pile on the pressure and scored two late goals to leave just two between the teams. Our boys held on and won on a score line of Athea/Mountcollins Rangers 2-13, St. Patricks 2-11.
