“What a Night”

Well “Community Spirit” really prevailed on Saturday night last at Tralee Track when Athea ‘went to the dogs’. It was a hugely successful night with a huge crowd in attendance. It was evident that a great deal of organizing and hard work had been put into the night and well done to each and every person who contributed in any way whatsoever to make the night the outstanding success that it was. The prize for the ‘best dressed man’ on the night went to Pat Higgins of Glasha – well done Pat and the ‘best dressed lady’ chosen was Carla Sheehy of Hillside Drive. The “Buster” prize of €500 was won by Tim O’Riordan of Dirreen and well done to all of Athea for supporting this fundraising night.

A few congratulations are in order this past week. Firstly a hearty congrats to Rose and Mike Hayes of Templeathea who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary along with their family at The Devon Inn. An enjoyable night was had by them.

Ryan Carroll, son of Margaret and Tommy, celebrated his 21st recently, also a great night was had by family and friends of Ryan.

Heartiest “70th” birthday wishes are sent to Mary Healy of Upper Athea who enjoyed her birthday celebrations at The Devon Inn with her family last week.

Congrats and well done to all those who received their Leaving Cert results in the parish this week and by all accounts did very well securing their various choices at the chosen colleges this Monday.

Well having returned from New Jersey, U.S.A. last week after a week’s stay with our daughter and her family (wish it could have been longer), the first thing one noticed on alighting from the plane on arrival was the lovely warm air – having come from rain and wind. It was like ‘a real tonic’, we’ve had so little of it this year. Then again this week the humidity they are experiencing there and intense heat, you can hardly breathe there I’m told – we were lucky in that the temperatures were just perfect. We stayed away from the hustle and bustle of New York City and just enjoyed family time chatting, relaxing by the pool and walking where deer, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, groundhogs and wild geese were everywhere to be seen in a lovely quiet, almost countryside environment – another bonus was that our phones didn’t work, so no texting or mobile calls and you know something, after a few days they weren’t even missed! Try it sometime.
