Matches: Minor County 13 aside:

Athea 9-07          Crecora/Manister  3-08

Athea played their first minor match in the County 13 aside competition against Crecora/Manister in Crecora on Tuesday evening last. This was a game full of goals and thankfully Athea got nine of them and in a very exciting game. We were first on the scoreboard when Brian Sheahan scored a goal after thirty seconds. The home side responded with a point of their own but a goal each for James Ryan and Brian Sheahan gave us a commanding lead. The home side fought back and scored three unanswered goals to take the lead. Shortly after Sean Ryan scored a point to level the match, but the opposition went ahead again when they scored another point. However we went in ahead at the break thanks to three points, one from James Ryan and two from his brother Sean which left the score at the break Athea 3-04, Crecora/Manister 3-02. At the start of the second half the home side scored two points to level the match. We took the lead once again when Brian Sheahan got his third goal of the night. Jack Denihan who had a fine game scored a point but the opposition railed again and scored a goal to bring the gap back down to one point. From then on our boys upped a gear, goals from Ronan Hayes, Jason Kelly, William Sexton and Sean Ryan gave us an unassailable lead. The home side scored a goal and three points to close the gap but points from William Sexton and Sean Ryan added to a great goal from the boot of Tony McAuliffe gave Athea the win on a score line of Athea 9-07, Crecora/Mainster 4-07.

Athea GAA ‘Gone To The Dogs’ – August 15th 2015

In aid of upcoming Pitch Improvement Works

You may well be aware by now that Athea GAA club is proposing to carry out pitch improvements later this year as part of an overall Club Development Plan. The first phase of the Plan is targeted to be carried out in August/September. The works which will cost in excess of €100k entail reprofiling the existing pitch and carrying out extensive drainage works as well as laying a sand carpet pitch. Once completed the pitch will be of the highest quality and much more durable in bad weather. A number of fund raising initiatives have been held in 2015 and we have received great support to date. To help raise additional money and to reduce the amount which we will have to borrow we have planned a Gone to the Dogs night on Saturday August 15th 2015 in Tralee Greyhound Track. We are seeking support to help make the night a great success.

In you are in a position to support us the following sponsorship options are on offer:

  • Sponsor a Race on the night – €500 (includes a full page ad in Programme)
  • Joint Sponsor a Race – €250 (includes a half page ad in Programme)
  • Place a full page advert in the Race Programme – €100
  • Place a half page advert in the Race Programme – €50

Tickets are also on sale at €10 each which includes admission on the night and entry into the buster draw. Children are free. The night should be a great social event for the Club and Community and will also celebrate the Athea Ladies Football Club’s 25th Anniversary since its foundation and first County title win. A number of the players past and present, including the “10 in a Row” team, will be there to celebrate the occasion. There will be face painting, bouncing castle, best dressed lady, best dressed man, spot prizes, etc. on the night. Your support of this event would be greatly appreciated and will help us deliver a project at Páirc na nGael which can be enjoyed by many from the Community for years to come.

If you are interested in supporting us in any way then please contact Paul Curry 087 6501673, Jacqueline O’ Connor 086 0670091 or Liz O’ Sullivan 087 6699783 or any member of our committee.
