Water meters are being installed around Ardagh village and district at present. To date over 15,000 have been installed around the county. The meters have been installed already in parts of Carrigkerry village, and the bills are due to arrive in the post later in the year. The water leaks around the country are being ignored and people will end up paying far more than they should for water, which is so plentiful in this country. If all the water that falls from the sky on to the roofs of all the buildings  in this country was collected in storage tanks there  would be enough water for every household. In a just and fair society the rain would be stored and the leaks would be repaired before any bills would be issued.

We extend our sympathy to Breda, and Tom Fitzgerald, and family Glensharrold Carrigkerry on the death of Breda’s mother Betty Costello (nee Sheehy) Toherbane, Kilmoyley, Ardfert, County Kerry. She lay in repose at Casey’s Funeral Home, Causeway on Tuesday May 20th from 6pm, followed by removal to the Sacred Heart Church Kilmoyley. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated on Wednesday at 12 noon in the Sacred Heart Church Kilmoyley followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Sympathy also to extended family members, relatives and friends. May she rest in Peace.

We also note the passing of Earl Gill from Dublin aged 81who founded the Hoedowners Showband back in the 1960s. The late Sean Dunphy who represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest was a member of the band. He finished second to Sandie Shaw in 1967 singing ‘If I could choose.’ Earl was a sportsman as well as a musician who was highly regarded and commanded high regard among colleagues and friends. May he rest in Peace.
