Matches:

Tuesday March 11:

West Intermediate Championship:

Athea 0-8        Fr. Caseys 3-11.

Athea Intermediates travelled to Mountcollins to take on Fr. Caseys in the West Intermediate Championship under lights on Tuesday evening last. On a bitterly cold evening, we were first on the score board when Denis Greaney fired over a great point after good work from Tom Collins and Conor Mullane. Soon after Fr. Caseys equalised and scored three more unanswered points to take a comfortable lead. Two pointed frees from Gerard Ahern and a point form Pat Ahern kept us in touch as we trailed by two points at the break. Even though we were first to score again in the second half when Gerard Ahern scored another free, Fr. Caseys dominated the rest of the match. Midway through the half the opposition scored three goals and killed off any chance of Athea coming back into the match. We had further points from Dylan Griffin, Gerard Ahern and Shane Mulvihill but Fr. Caseys ran out deserved winners on a score line of Athea 0-8, Fr. Caseys 3-11. Team: Timmy Enright, Shane Tierney, Martin Chawke, Raymond Brouder, Dylan Griffin, Denis Greaney, Michael Reidy, Jamie Collins, Tom Collins, Sean McGrath, Patrick Ahern, Shane Mulvihill, Kevin Mahony, Gerard Ahern, Conor Mullane, Matthew Tierney, Pa Chawke, William Mullane, Brian Murphy, Neilo Keane, Jonathan Fitzgerald, Kevin O’ Keeffe, Mark O’ Connor & Eoin McCarthy.

Monday March 17:

West Senior Championship:

Athea 1-13       Adare 3-08

Athea took on Adare in the West Senior Football Championship in Askeaton on St. Patrick’s Day. This was a very entertaining game which started lively as it was point for point for the first fifteen minutes with Pat Ahern, Jamie Collins and Conor Mullane raising the white flags forAthea. Shane Mulvihill and Jamie Collins edged us two points ahead but Adare responded with a goal. Shane Mulvihill had us back on level terms once again with a well taken point. Just before half time Pat Ahern traded points with the opposition to leave the sides level at the break. Sean McGrath who came on for the injured Padraig Reidy fired over the opening score of the second half. Jamie Collins added to his tally when he found the back of the net after great work from Shane Mulvihill and Pat Ahern. Adare scored a point of their own but Pat Ahernrose the white flag for Athea to restore our four point lead. The opposition hit a purple patch scoring two goals and two points to rattle Athea. The story could have been a lot worse only for the great goalkeeping of Timmy Enright. A point from Conor Mullane and two from ShaneMulvihill left the minimum between the sides, but time ran out and Athea lost out on a scoreline of Athea 1-13, Adare 3-08. Team: Timmy Enright, Shane Tierney, Matthew Tierney, Michael Reidy, Padraig Reidy, Paul Collins, Martin Chawke, Pa Chawke, Tom Collins, Denis Greaney, Jamie Collins, Shane Mulvihill, Dylan Griffin, Patrick Ahern, Conor Mullane, Mark O’ Connor, Neilo Keane, Dan McMahon, Sean McGrath, Kevin Mahony, Eoin McCarthy & Kevin O’Keeffe.
