Matches:

Friday Oct 25:

U21:

Feale Rangers(Athea/Mountcollins) 1-13   Fr. Casey’s 2-11.

The Athea/Mountcollins U21 combination of Feale Ranger’s took on Fr. Casey’s under lights on Friday evening last in Mick Neville Park. This was a very exciting match with never more than a kick of a ball between the two teams. Pa Delee opened the scoring with a great point for Feale Ranger’s but Fr. Casey’s soon equalized with a point of their own. Gary Vaughan edged us in front with a well taken point from a Maurice Hayes free kick. The opposition came more into the game and went ahead after scoring two points. Our half back line of Cian O’Sullivan, Denis Greaney and Shane Mulvihill soon came to grips with their opponents and our forwards were causing trouble for their backs. We went in front again when James Brouder and Pa Delee scored a point each. Fr. Casey’s raised two white flags of their own to nudge ahead once again. It was Feale Rangers who started piling on the pressure at this stage but we could not convert our possession into scores as we hit a number of wides and this would prove costly at the final whistle. We did manage to score three good points just before half time, one each for James Brouder, Ryan Carroll and Pa Delee, to lead by two points at the break. Fr. Casey’s started the brighter in the second half with three points on the trot. A point from Matthew Brouder levelled matters but we suffered a blow when the opposition scored a goal. James Brouder brought us back into the game with a point and quick thinking by Kevin Mahony from a free, found Cian O’Sullivan in the edge of the square unmarked and he made no mistake firing to the back of the net to put us a point up. Another point for James Brouder extended our lead but we suffered another blow when Fr. Casey’s scored their second goal of the match. Conor Moroney who came on as a substitute levelled matters again with a good point. Fr. Casey’s went ahead again scoring two points and looked like they were pulling away but a point each from Pa Delee and James Brouder meant the match was level with minutes remaining. Unfortunately the winning point went Fr. Casey’s way and the final score was Feale Rangers 1-13, Fr. Casey’s 2-11.Team: Jonathan Fitzgerald, Jamie Lenihan, Mark O’Connor, Gary Vaughan, Cian O’Sullivan, Denis Greaney, Shane Mulvihill, Kevin Mahony, Stephen Cahill, Ryan Carroll, Pa Delee, Kevin Murphy, Matthew Brouder, James Brouder, Maurice Hayes, Dylan Griffin, Michael Mullane, Dan Mullane, Conor Moroney, Liam O’ Brien, Jason O’ Flaherty, William Finnegan, Sean Casey & Emmet White.

U14 DIVISON 2
Athea Utd     (1) 2        Shane Dalton, Ryan O’Connell
Carrig Cel    (0) 1

The fourteens finally got a break in fortunes as they won for the first time this season with a two one win at home to Carrig Celtic last Saturday morning. We were a goal to the good at half time and deservedly so with Shane Dalton scoring his fourth goal of the season in typical fashion. Weather conditions became worse in the second half but this didn’t stop our lads who were determined to get something from this game. Midway through the second half Carrig scored an equalizer and then we lost Shane with a bad injury so were up again it now. However we weren’t to be denied and a well struck shot from John Sexton saw the keeper save brilliantly but the rebound fell perfectly for Ryan O’Connell to fire the ball to the net. There was still time for more drama as in the last minute Carrig were rightly awarded a penalty after their payer was fouled but their penalty taker saw his shot hit the crossbar before been cleared. A big let off for us as within a minute or so the referee blew the final whistle.
