Matches

Intermediates

Athea Intermediates played two league matches recently. The first away to Glin last weekend and it was the home side who came out on top, after an evenly contested first half, Glin pulled away in the second half to win the match. Our second match was at home to Na Piarsaigh on Saturday evening last and after a much improved performance we were unlucky to lose out by a point at the final whistle. In an entertaining game of football it was all square at the break,  Athea, 2-04, Na Piarsaigh 1-07, Darren Murphy and Pa Ahern with the goals. We started the second half brightly with wonderful points from Kevin Murphy,  Conor Mullane and Ger Ahern and we looked set for victory until a late goal and a point left the final score Athea 2-11, Na Piarsaigh 2-12. Panel: Timmy Enright, Raymond Brouder, Shane Tierney, Mark O’Connor, Denis Greaney, Michael Reidy, Kevin O Keeffe, Gerard Collins, Ryan Carroll, Jamie Collins, Gerard Ahern, Pa Ahern, Darren Murphy, Martin Chawke, Dylan Griffin, Conor Mullane, Kevin Murphy, Kevin O’ Mahony, Dan McMahon, John Geoghegan, Eoin McCarthy & Matthew Tierney.

Cúl Camp:

The Cúl Camp took place in Costa Del Páirc na nGael last week with over sixty children attending every day in blistering heat. There was loads of fun and games for the young ones with the older boys and girls learning and developing the skills of Gaelic football. We had five Super coaches during the week Mike Sheehan, Eoin Breen, Denis Greaney, Íde Trant, and  Kristine Reidy along with camp supervisor Pat Galvin. On Friday Limerick Footballer Padraig Browne was on hand to present the children with medals for attending the camp. He also presented medals to David O’ Connor and Sarah O’ Connor who were winners of the skills challenge and will now go forward to represent Athea in U.L. later on in the year. Many thanks to all who helped during the week, all the children had a brilliant time and just before they went home on Friday the biggest water fight ever seen in Athea broke out with children coaches and parents all doing their best to throw water on each other. It was one way of cooling down after a long hot week in the sun.

County:

Congratulations to Limericks Senior Hurlers who were crowned Munster Hurling Champions after defeating Cork by nine points in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday evening last

Athea United Soccer

VICTORY SOCIAL THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

Athea Utd had a great season at junior level when winning three trophies, the As coming from behind in the league to win the title after a playoff while the Bs won the Division 3 League & Cup Double. This is historic in that it’s the first time a junior side in the club ever did the double though the feat has being achieved before an underage level. So to celebrate this seasons success the club will be holding a Victory Social in The Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine this coming Friday, July 19th. There will be a three course meal while music afterwards will be by DJ Donnacha. Guests to be seated for 7.30pm.

Tickets are still on sale at only €25 and are limited and may be purchased from the following club members – Clare Ryan, Dennis Murphy, John Geoghegan and Bobby Barrett. Tickets can also be purchased at Brouders Shop here in Athea.
