‘Family Fun Day’

Come walk with us on Sunday June 16th when the Colbert Hall Committee have organised a lovely walk which is suitable for men, women and children at John Lenihan’s Loop in Ballymac. The walk is approximately 2 hours long and there will be a break for a picnic which all participating are asked to bring along.  We are meeting at the Hall here in Athea at 10.30am and the walk will commence from O’Riada’s Pub (between Castleisland and Tralee) at 11am. Our last climb/walk was up Mangerton 2 years ago, a day where 90 participants took part and everyone still talks about the great enjoyable day they had, especially the kids.  If you want to you can make a little donation no matter how small to our bucket collection (no obligation). The running costs of our hall are over €12,000 a year and rather than going house to house selling tickets we try to gather a few Euro in a fun way with a Family Day out which costs everyone very little.  So come along all you parishioners and indeed everyone outside the parish and join us for a walk and what better way to keep fit and the kids will love it. And everyone will be back to treat their Dads for “Father’s Day”. The Dads can even work up an appetite on the walk.

Sincere congratulations to Breda and Tony Shanahan of Barna who were blessed with their first baby, a little boy they are calling Patrick, last week. We also congratulate the grand-parents Mary and Ned Riordan of Clash, Athea on the new arrival.

Well what a difference a week of “brilliant sunshine” makes to everyone’s life especially the farmers! We basked in temperatures hotter than many of the European “hotspots”. And as everyone agreed if we only had more sun nobody would want to leave Ireland – everywhere looks so beautiful.

The beaches were thronged to capacity over the past weekend and we here in Athea are so lucky to live neat Beale, Ballybunion, Banna and Ballyheigue etc. Some of the best beaches in the world on a sunny day. There’s a slight change these days but hopefully we will return to the warm weather again, that puts everyone in good form and worries, recession etc are put to one side.

Wishing all ‘Dad’s’ a very happy Father’s Day this weekend, it’s their turn  now to put up the feet for the day, what a change, I wonder??

Once again congratulations to the Tidy Towns volunteers, the hanging baskets give so much colour to the village. Mullane’s old shop has been painted, another flower bed being prepared up near Rathronan – what great improvements.
