Sincere congratulations and good wishes go to David Sheehan son of Maireád and Eddie, Toureen, Athea who was married to Jenny Ahern of Scart on Saturday last in Glin, and held their reception at The Charleville Park Hotel where everyone had a great day.
Congratulations to the Athea United U-10’s Soccer team who on Monday last played a thrilling Shield Final in Clounreask against Newcastle West ‘B’ winning on a score line of 3-1. It was an intense game to say the least and great excitement as they brought the shield home to Athea. Well done to all the team, subs, trainers etc.
To all those starting their Leaving and Junior Cert Exams today – Wednesday – wishing them all the very best and hopefully they all do well.
If anyone would like to travel to Dublin on next Saturday for the anti-abortion rally please contact Fr. Bowen or Pat Higgins immediately. The bus will leave at 9.15 from Abbeyfeale.
“Heat at last”, what a marvellous change from the rain, it’s great to see silage rigs out on the roads and turf machines and everyone out and about gardening, walking, cycling etc long may it last .
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family members, relatives and friends of the late Tom Lynch of Glasha, Athea who was laid to rest in Holy Cross on Sunday last. ‘May he rest in peace’.
The Tidy Towns people continue to do great work in and around the village. The mural on the area between Mullane’s shop and Sean Batt’s is really taking shape and adds real colour to the village. Some of the children were involved in helping to do some of the painting on Saturday last which was indeed a nice idea. If everyone does a little bit, even though we may not be part of the main committee, it would really make our village a cleaner and nicer place to live in. Whether it be to pull a weed, pick up rubbish that others have carelessly thrown around or whatever, every little helps.
Congratulations to some of the Social Walking/ Jogging group from Athea who took part in the 5 k Run in Foynes on Sunday last. They all did very well raising money for Cystic Fibrosis.
Thought for this week – “He who buys what he doesn’t need steals from himself”.
