Division 3 League Cup SF 1st Leg (February 10th)
Ballingarry B  (2) 2
Athea Utd B    (1) 4   Steven McEnery(3), Eoghan Nash

Last Sunday the Bs were away to Ballingarry B in the first leg of the league cup and we returned home with a very good four two win to leave us within sight of the final. Hopefully this time we will be focussed fully on the second leg and not have a repeat of the Shannonside B experience. It was the homeside who got a tonic start with the opening goal inside the first minute and it took us a while to get going.
Certainly the lack of competitive league games a factor in our sluggish start. We were back in it on ten minutes when Steven McEnery found the net. The homeside were well up for the game in the first half and had some other chances but only scored once more, that coming on twenty-one minutes as we generally speaking we defended solidly.
We came out strongly in the second half had a chance straight from the kick off with Mike McCarthy going very close. However we didn’t have long to wait for the equalizer which came on fifty five minutes when McEnery got enough space to pick his spot. Ten minutes later we were ahead when Eoghan Nash scored an unorthodox goal with his back from a Jason Quille corner. It was still an open game with chances for both sides and Ballingarry nearly equalized in injury time only for Donal Woulfe to pull off a great save following a corner and we counter attacked and went straight down the other end for McEnery to compete his hat trick and surely we will be in the league cup final now.
Team: Donal Woulfe, Raymond Brouder, Tom Greaney Sean McGrath, Jason Quille, Gary Carroll, Pa Kiely, Eoghan Nash, John Geoghegan, Mike McCarthy, Steven McEnery. Subs Dan McMahon and Beanie
Referee Brian Nash.

U10 Division 3 (February 9th)
Creeves Cel  (2) 4
Athea Utd     (1) 4  Darragh O’Shea, Eoin O’Shea, Andrew O’Riordan (2)

Last Saturday the tens were away to Creeves Celtic in the league and we were looking for a similar outcome to the one we had in the opening game of the season when we defeated Creeves at The Vales. At half time we trailed two one with our goal coming from Darragh O’Shea and early in the second half the homeside scored again to leave us three one down. After this we upped our performance and Eoin O’Shea made it three two midway through the second half and not long after the game was level when Andrew O’Riordan found the net. We would have settled for a point at this stage considering we had to come from back from a two goal deficit but a second goal from Andrew two minutes from time gave us the lead. However a free kick in the last minute saw Creeves equalize with both sides going home with a point apiece.
Next Sunday the tens will play Glantine at The Vales at 2.30pm.
Team: Team: Andrew O’Riordan, Gearoid O’Sullivan, Michael Tierney, Brandon Finucane, Gavin Ambrose, Eoin O’Shea, T.J Hunt, Daire O’Shea, Dermot Pierse, Amy Ryan, Paric Enright, Shane Scanlon, Michael Walsh, Conor Mullane.
U8 Friendly (February 10th)
Killeaney   (3) 5
Athea Utd  (0) 3   Callum Buckley (2)

Last Sunday out eights played Killeaney away in a friendly. The team were three down at half time but came back fighting in the second half, Once Callum Buckley hit the net with the first goal the team were in very high spirits and with great play from his team mates Callum scored a second. Unfortunately with Killeaney being the stronger team they scored twice more to make it 5-2 at full time. The team played well and well done to everyone involved.

Limerick Senior Footballers secured their second win of the league campaign with a hard fought win over Offaly in Tullamore on Sunday last. Playing into a slight breeze in the first half Limerick trailed the home side by a point at half time. In the second half it was Offaly who started better and were three points to the good with 15 minutes to go, but Limerick stepped up a gear with the winning point coming from Eoghan O’ Connor in the last few minutes. Final Score: Limerick 0-12 Offaly 1-8.
