U12’s

Our U12s travelled the long journey to Limerick to take on Ballylanders in the new sports arena at the university of Limerick on Saturday evening last. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, Ballylanders were quick of the mark scoring a couple of early points. We got of the mark when Shane Dalton scored a wonderful point but with the wind at their backs the opposition built up a commanding lead. We came to life at the end of the first half when Shane Dalton scored a wonderful goal and shortly afterwards John Sexton rose the white flag. The second half was a different story as we coped a lot better with the height and strength of the east Limerick team and had most of the possession, as we put on a great display of scoring points with Shane Ambrose, Shane Dalton and John Sexton amongst the scorers. The Ballylanders forwards found it hard to score in this half thanks to the tight marking of our backs. At the final whistle it was Ballylanders who came out on top, but our Athea team put on an excellent performance on the day and were rewarded when they each received a medal from Limerick star James Ryan. The day was topped off when all the team were treated to McDonald’s on the way home. Team: Cathal O’ Brien, David O’ Sullivan, David O’ Connor, Michéal Dalton, John Sexton, Shane Dalton, Shane Ambrose, Jack O’ Connor, Daniel McEldowney, Joseph Dalton, Donnacha Clancy, Sean Sheehan, Jamie O’ Mahony & Jack McCarthy.

U10’s

We hosted our first U10 Blitz of the year when Glin and Knockaderry visited Páirc na nGael on Friday evening last. We had our biggest panel of the year when 26 boys and girls togged out in the Maroon and White of Athea. We divided them into two teams and they all played two games each. It was great to see such a huge crowd to cheer on all the boys and girls as they gave it their all on the night. The skill level was high from both teams as their passing, kicking, catching and soloing is improving with every game they play. The night finished on a high as everyone was treated to refreshments in the Clubhouse before they went home. Team: Sarah O’ Connor, Eoin O’ Shea, Daire O’ Shea, TJ Hunt, Eoin Sheahan, Aidan Curry, Meadhbh Donovan, Laura Dalton, Brandon Finucane, Andrew O’ Riordan, Paraic Enright, Colin Broderick, Danny Brady, Gavin Ambrose, Alex McEldowney, Luke Gleeson, Rhys Keily, Jack McCarthy, Nicola Scanlon, Sarah Scanlon, Pierce O’ Brien, Adam Byrne, Amy Ryan, Michael Tierney, Jack Hunt & Evan Wallace.
