Division 4 League Cup
Kilcornan B   (1) 2
Athea Utd B   (0) 1      McEnery
(Athea Utd B win 6-2 on agg)

The Bs as expected advanced to the semi finals of the league cup despite losing two one away to Kilcornan B last Sunday afternoon. All the good work was done in the first leg when strikers Ian Murphy and Steven McEnery combined for our five goals and only a monumental collapse in the second leg would have given Kilcornan some hope. That scenario never really materialised as a determined Athea advanced six two on aggregate and will now face Shannonside in the semi final with the first leg taking place in Shanagolden on Sunday week.
The match last Sunday saw Kilcornan take a goal advantage into the half time interval and early in the second half they made it two nil  before Steven McEnery quickly halved the deficit on the day and that was as near as Kilcornan came as we defended very well from this to the final whistle and so we progress to the last four. We have already beaten Shannonside twice in the league but this is no guarantee that the two legged semi will be easy so plenty of hard work to be done and hopefully we can reach back to back league cup semi finals.

Athea Coiuste na nÓg

Matches:

Wednesday 4th of April:
U14’s:

Athea 2-7 (13)  Crecora 1- 12 (15)

We travelled the long journey to Crecora on Wednesday evening last for our next game. We had a great start to the game with two unanswered points from William Sexton and James Ryan. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half with Crecora just shading it by two points at the end of the half, the score was 06-04. Crecora started the second half the brightest and mounted the pressure on the Athea defence. A solid display from the full back line of Micheál Ambrose
(full back) TJ Doherty and Padraig O’ Sullivan kept us in the game, keeping their markers scoreless. With our backs against the wall the true character of the team came to the fore. This was epitomised by the display of Sean Ryan (centre field) having a brilliant game working hard to keep Athea in check during Crecora’s purple patch, displaying some excellent fielding and defending. Inspired by this
performance the team came together and blitzed the Crecora defence. At this stage Timothy Tierney, Micheál Dalton and Liam McAuliffe were introduced and gave their markers plenty to deal with. Athea were now flying high with James Ryan and William Sexton dissecting the Crecora defence. With the collective effort of the team in full flow Athea fought back and scored 2 goals to bring the game to a thrilling end. Unfortunately, our comeback came a little too late, leaving Crecora lucky winners on a scoreline of Athea 2-7 Crecora 1-12. Team: Conor Fitzgerald, Padraig O’Sullivan, Micheál Ambrose, TJ Doherty, Cillian Liston, James Ryan, Mark McAuliffe, JJ Sheehy, Sean Ryan, Alan Kelly, William Sexton, Shane Dalton, William McEnery, Brian Sheahan, Donnacha McEnery, Jack Gleeson, Timothy Tierney, Liam McAuliffe & Micheál Dalton
