Athea Drama Group Present

“Lovely Leitrim”

Unfortunately last Sunday’s night’s performance had to be stopped when Domhnall de Barra became unwell on stage. Glad to report that Domhnall is well and home from the hospital. We wish him well.

The play will be staged again on this  Thurs. 1st, Sat. 3rd & Sun. 4th March in the Con Colbert Memorial Hall starting at 8pm

This play is written by Leitrim man John McDwyer who also wrote  “Unforgiven” which was staged by this group a couple of years ago.

It moves between a farmhouse and pub in Leitrim to an Irish pub in London where exiles meet after a match between Leitrim and London. Set in modern times it uncovers the pain of separation from home and the land and could easily be about this part of the country.

A cast of ten men and two women have been rehearsing for a few months and it should be well worth a visit. Don’t miss it!

Athea Foróige Youth Club

On Wednesday the 15th of February, we held our pancake fundraiser, it was a great success and we raised €260. The pupils from the National school came over to try our pancakes. We really enjoyed cooking for and serving our customers. We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and our leaders Natalie Thornton and Aggie Barrett for helping to organise the event. Recently, we attended an interclub disco held by Cappamore Foròige. We enjoyed the bopping tunes and making new friends. We are excited to be attending a Foròige fundraising day in Curragh Chase on the 14th of April. On the day, we will be orienteering, camping, going to a local disco and enjoying a barbeque with other clubs. On Saturday the 3rd of March will be heading to Newcastle West youth café for a chill out afternoon with the local club. Ben Thornton will be the DJ on the day to keep thing lively. In May, we will be travelling to Longford for a youth festival called “Hype” organised by Foròige. There will be tents, stalls, performers and musical entertainment. We enclose some photographs from our pancake day and we hope to see you at our next event in the village.
