The Wise Men have come and gone, the decorations are back in their box and we are well and truly into a New Year. We hope there will be some good in it for us all.
Congratulations to Maura Curtin, nee Langan, daughter to Patrick and Maireád, Glenagragra who was lucky enough to be called for the 2nd time to Spin the Wheel on Saturday night. Though Maura did not actually get to spin the wheel she went home with a holiday and over €24,000 so that is not a bad days work at all. Well done, Maura. It is great to see people we know on these programs.
I was sorry to hear of the death of Dan (Monnie) Keane last week. Dan was one month younger than fellow poet Paddy Faley so it was poignant that one should follow the other so soon. It was only a few weeks before Christmas that Dan launched his book of Kerry Limericks. I had met him in Lystoll Lodge the week before the launch and he was looking forward to it. I am glad he had the satisfaction of being able to attend. May he now rest in peace.
The Loughill/Ballyhahill Parish Annual team is now seeking articles, poems, club reports, school reports, local news, foreign news and/or photos for the 2012 Annual. The deadline is mid February so you have 4- 5 weeks to be putting stuff together and getting them emailed to [email protected] please. Alternatively hand them to myself or into Mullanes shop in Knockdown. The Parish Annual is becoming part of our history in the Parish and is eagerly looked forward to every year.
Glin Library is going live online and is now connected via the internet to all Co Limerick libraries. This is good news for Glin Library; in fact Glin is the first of the small libraries to go online. When, eventually both the Co Council and the City Council join up all the libraries of city and county will be as one. Under the one umbrella as one would say. The library is open four days a week from Tuesday to Friday. 06826910. email [email protected]. Membership is free as it is to all Co. Limerick libraries. Why not call in and join up for the New Year?
