Reidy Cup Q/F

Athea Utd A        (2) 3      Darren Murphy (2), Gerard Ahern

Carrig Celtic A    (2) 2

Our As remain on course for a third successive Reidy Cup final appearance after they progressed to the semi finals thanks to a deserved three two win at home to Carrig Celtic last Sunday afternoon. Carrig opened the scoring but we struck back positively and levelled through Darren Murphy and then going ahead with a Gerard Ahern goal. Before half time the visitors levelled but we secured our semi final place when Murphy got his second of the game. In the semi final we will be away to Rockhill Rvs or Rathkeale B or Bally Rovers.

U/10 Division 2

Glin Rovers  (2) 4

Athea Utd    (0) 1    Andrew O’Riordan

The tens played their last game before the winter break away to Glin Rovers last Saturday afternoon and were quite unlucky to lose by three goals as the homeside scored two late goals in each half. For the first fifteen minutes of the first half Athea were the better team with Gavin Ambrose on the right wing causing all sorts of trouble for the Glin defence. Our defence were playing well too with full backs Danny Brady and Brandon Finucane giving nothing away while Tomas McEnery was equally effective. In midfield Andrew O’Riordan and Eoin O’Shea were working well together alongside Gavin while up front we had Alex McEndowney and Aidan Curry. Like I said we were playing well but late in the half Glin got in for two soft goals and up until then they never looked like scoring.

We introduced Paric Enright and Michael Tierney at half time and that second half followed the same pattern of the first with plenty endeavour and energy from the Athea players while Evan Wallace in goals made a number of very good saves. We also introduced Luke Gleeson, Jack Hunt, DJ O’Connor, Daire O’Shea, Pierce O’Brien and Eoin Sheahan only for Glin to add two more late goals. A good move involving Michael Tierney and Daire O’Shea created a chance for Andrew O’Riordan who shot just over but Andrew wasn’t to be denied and scored our only goal after good play by Eoin Sheahan and Paric Enright.

The tens now take a break as the tens league now closes for the winter and the tens will resume games on Saturday, February 4th.

Team: Evan Wallace, Danny Brady, Brandon Finucane, Tomas McEnery, Gavin Ambrose, Andrew O’Riordan, Eoin O’Shea, Alex McEndowney, Aidan Curry, Paric Enright, Michael Tierney, Luke Gleeson, Jack Hunt, DJ O’Connor, Daire O’Shea, Pierce O’Brien, Eoin Sheahan.

West U 21 A Final

Sean Finns/Rathkeale 2 13   Feale Rangers 3 08.

Rangers season ended in disappointment as they lost the U21 A final for the second year in a row. We led at half time 2 04 to 0 09 thanks to the midfield dominance of Conor Mullane and Tom McCarthy. We had a few opportunities at the start of the second half to extend our lead but our failure to do so was to prove costly at the finish. Rathkeale were marginally the better side and their quick forwards proved a handful.  Credit must go to Rangers coach Pa Ahern who got his side to the final undefeated. Best on the day were: Mark O’Connor, Denis Greaney, Conor Mullane, Eoin O’Sullivan, Tom McCarthy and Pa Delee.

Team: Batt Dillane, William Finnegan, Stephen Cahill, Brian J O`Connell,  Denis Greaney, Timmy Begley, Eoin O`Sullivan, Conor Mullane (capt), Tom McCarthy, Jason Quille, Eoin Moroney, Pa Delee, James Broudair, Anthony Hartnett, Darren Murphy.

Subs: Mark O`Connor, Ryan Carroll, Matthew Broudair.

Congratulations:

The club would like to offer its congratulations and best wishes to Michael and Áine Reidy on the birth of their first child, Liam Óg.
