Ireland’s Inaugural, First Bike on Scene (FBoS) qualification.
I would like to give you a story of motorcyclist’s many of which are members of the Athea Motorcycle Road Raceswww.athearaodracesgroup who last weekend Saturday 22 October underwent
Ireland’s Inaugural, First Bike on Scene (FBoS) qualification. The 2 day event was hosted by senior ambulance training official with the UK biggest ambulance service the www.nwas.nhs.uk the venue being the home of Athea Road Races, Gables Function room
The FBoS programme candidates spent an enjoyable 8hr day increasing their awareness of road, rider and pillion safety. Module one addressed the ” mechanism of injury”, followed by “Road traffic collisions (RTC) containment and management”, thereby maintaining their own and other road users safety. The rest of the day was spent gaining credible competence in many immediate care skills, such as: Helmet removal / Head and Neck control / Log roll skills (used for spinal injury risk) Snatch rescue and finally CPR at the scene.
All successful candidates are now looking forward to receiving their Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (RCoSE) , Faculty of Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Certification. Phecc.ie do not offer such a programme, but my Paramedic colleague Nick and I will be pursuing joint validation in 2012. The range of skills within this one day provider programme is a fantastic contribution to Motorcycle safety and skills of ” what to do”, when a Motorcyclist or motorist comes across a M/C RTC scene have a look at www.motorcycleinfo.co.uk First Bike on scene
These two days of activity were planned to enable Myself and Paramedic colleague to become ROI – Irelands Only verified FBOS instructors with Joint Validation from www.nwas.nhs.uk and RCoSE. we intend to roll out this course to interested parties of motorcyclist and motorist over 2012
All candidates received Free FBOS RSA Hi Viz Vest / FBOS logo to carry on their M/C for just such an event
These pioneers are in the vanguard of innovation ready for action should they be called into practice. Several of the course members are active Athea CFR members too, and found their new skills complimented very well with their other Immediate Life support skills and practices.
We will be running the next FBOS programmes in Athea planned for
10 December
- 9.00 – 17.00
- Gables Function room
- All motorist – motorcyclist welcome (no) prior First Aid – Life Support Training needed
