Sunday 19th of June:

U-6’s:

It was a great day for our U-6 team as they took to the field for the first time this year against Fr. Casey’s and for many it was their first time wearing the maroon and white of Athea. It was a great sight for parents, grandparents, relations and spectators to see as both sides give it their all for the whole of the match. It was also brilliant to see, how all the players have put into practice all the skills of Gaelic football that their coaches have been showing them at training every Friday evening. There is no doubt that many of these young boys and girls will be the stars of the future. Training will continue this Friday evening for all the U6s at 6:30pm in Páirc na nGael.

Team: James Broderick, Evan Curry, Aoife Sheahan, Dylan Steward, Chloe Kenrick, Calum Buckley, Clodagh Scanlon, Cillian O’ Connor & Aisling Donovan.

Sunday 19th of June:

U8’s:

On a sunny Sunday morning last our U-8’s were in action in Páirc na nGael against our near neighbours Fr. Casey’s. We had two teams togged out and both these teams played two matches each. All these young players put on a great display for the huge crowd that came from both parishes to cheer them on. The quality of football was a joy to see as all these boys and girls played their hearts out on the field. They are improving with every game they play and we are really looking forward to our next blitz during the week. Team: TJ Hunt, Josh Mulally, Molly Pepper Carr, Gavin Ambrose, Molly Ahern, Nicole Carroll, Brandon Finucane, Andrew O’ Riordan, Eoin O’ Shea, Daire O’ Shea, Meadhbh Donovan, Sarah Scanlon, Conor Mullane, Michael Tierney, Pierce O’ Brien & Gearóid O’ Sullivan.

Athea Golf Society

The forecast was very bad for  Saturday morning last with heavy rain showers expected but we were pleasantly surprised at Killorglin Golf Course with just a few light showers to contend with. There was a good turnout for the competition which was won by Paul Curry with Tom O’Keeffe in 2nd place. Category B went to Philip Woulfe  and Michael O’Connor Jnr. won category C. Nearest the pin was Tim Ahern and  Paul Stack took the longest drive. Martin O’Reilly won the  guest prize.

Our next outing is to Beaufort on July 12th.  More details later.
