Hunger Strike 30th Anniversary

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Hunger Strikers and to commemorate this the National Exhibition will be coming to West Limerick. This will be a unique opportunity to see personal artefacts belonging to the men of Long Kesh, this includes personal letters to family members, who have kindly donated these precious memories to this wonderful exhibition of Irish history.  Also we hope to have a talk on the night from many key speakers, who can speak first hand about the Hunger Strike. Our local TD Martin Ferris will be in attendance. This date is to be confirmed in the coming weeks and more information will be available.

Bobby Sands Diary:

As this is the 30th Anniversary the diary of Bobby Sands has been re-published and is available for sale in the Abbeyfeale Sinn Féin office. Also available is a small book on te history of Hunger Strikes in our country. Both are wonderful reads for as little as €6 each. If anyone would like a copy of these books and cannot make the office please ring 087 7537192 and we will gladly get one for you.

Leaving Cert Students

This year the Hunger Strikes have been included in the Leaving Cert exam, we as a local Cumann are more than willing to speak with students undertaking this subject. Some times it’s easier to hear the facts than read them. Also the books previously mentioned would be a fantastic aid to study. Please feel free to call 087 7537192 to arrange a time and we will try to help in any way possible.

Office Hours

Just a quick reminder that the office is open everyday from 10.30am in Abbeyfeale, no issue is too small. Martin Ferris is in attendance on Saturday mornings at 11am.
