Kathleen Mullane

Out and About

Heartiest congratulations and good wishes are sent to Kathleen and Patsy O’Connor of Knocknagorna, who on Sunday last had a surprise party sprung on them by their family and friends at The Gables to celebrate their Silver Wedding Anniversary – 25 years of wedded bliss, everyone had a great day – wishing them all the very best for the future.

A reminder to our young girls that on Saturday next 12th March – the U-12’s, U-14’s, U-16’s and Minors will have a training session in preparation for forthcoming games. All previous players are asked to come along and newcomers are especially welcome.

Knockanure Community Centre are holding another Table Top sale on Sunday March 20th following the great success of the previous one. It takes place from 12.00 – 4.00 pm in the centre. A marvellous way of getting rid of “unwanted clutter” – which we all have – Some hoarding and holding onto things for far too long. It costs just €10 for a table top space or a car boot space. To book a space ring Mary on 068-49799 or 087-7528626.

I see Killeaney are also holding a car boot Sale on this Sunday March 13th – so maybe head their first and anything unsold you can head to Knockanure the following weekend. “What’s one person’s “CLUTTER” is another person’s “TREASURE

Well done to all the children, their teachers and parents who took part in the sponsored walk for the new pitch and running track at Athea National School on Tuesday last. If you haven’t yet seen the pitch and track it’s well worth a visit and a credit to all concerned.

Following another meeting by the Fr. Jerry Roche Memorial Committee on Monday night it was unanimously decided by all that a bust of Fr. Jerry should be erected in the Church grounds here in Athea on the sloped area near the steps , where the Statue of Our Lady is. Alan Ryan Hall of Valentia, Co. Kerry, will be commissioned to do the work, which will take a few months to complete after which there will be an unveiling ceremony.

We thank Margaret Carroll for the use of her house for the meeting along with the lovely tea, sandwiches etc.  and also to Peggy Casey for the same for our last meeting. It will be nice to have Fr. Jerry remembered in his home town of Athea R.I.P.
