Knockdown News-20/03/13

It is a common fact that there has always been great football rivalry between Athea and Ballyhahill but all that was changed last weekend when Ailis Cummane, sister of footballers Michael and Seánie, Knockdown got married to Brian Ahern from Athea. It was a great day with both parishes prepared to let bygones be bygones (for the day!) as everybody wished the happy couple well and got on with the business of celebrating. At present Ailis and Brian are honeymooning in Mexico before heading to Las Vegas. We wish them many years of happiness together.

It is always great to see young talent emerging and this was evident in the Knockdown Arms on Sunday night when Laura Enright, Dromreask and her schoolfriend Rachel from Moyvane entertained all with their beautiful singing voices.

Knockdown is expected to be inundated on Saturday night next when a night of fundraising for Aid Cancer Treatment is being organised. Carol Noonan of Clounleharde has organised this as a thank you for the successful treatment which she received in Cork last year. All profits of the weekend will go towards ACT. She is grateful to have the support of Knockdown Vintage Club and Estuary Macra in organising a raffle with prizes including Hotel Breaks, Galway Crystal, Perfume, Paintings, Vouchers and much more. The draw will take place in The Knockdown Arms next Saturday night 23rd March .Tickets are on sale at €2 each or book of 3 for €5. There will also be an auction on the night. On the following day 24th March there will be both a Vintage Car and Tractor run as well as a Modern Tractor run starting at 12.30 at The Knockdown Arms. This will be followed by an auction of silage bales, turf,  timber, motor accessories and more. Your support for this worthy cause would be appreciated.

Killeaney Lotto was not won on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were 4,10, 12, 13. The usual prizes were drawn out of the barrel. Keep buying the tickets. You might win and the Killeaney club will continue to thrive.
