Ladies
U16 Girls League Round 1
Athea 13.7
Gerald Griffins 6.10
Well done to our u16 girls who played their first league Monday evening in ideal conditions.
A great team performance from start to finish with the 14 girls covering every inch of grass. It was end to end football against a strong Gerald Griffins side. With both sets of forwards taking their chances.
Their next game is away April 22nd
Intermediate team – Division 2
Hard luck to our intermediate ladies who were defeated by Fr Casey’s on Sunday evening.
Our girls got off to the perfect start with a goal from the boot of Aoife O’ Connor. Fr Casey’s soon found their grooved and registered a number of points. Athea were rewarded for their hard work around the middle when we got a few more points on the board and a long range shot by Aoife Curtin finishing to the back of the net. This was soon cancelled out by a Fr Casey’s goal just before the break for half time. 2.4 v 2.5.
It was all one way traffic in the second half with Michelle Curtain getting our only point. Disappointing end to evening with both Rachel Greaney and Ciara Hunt leaving the field injured. We would like to wish both a speedy recovery.
Some positive can be got from the game but a lot to work on over the next week before their next home game at home to Ballylanders on April 21st at 6 pm.
Team: Sarah O’ Connor, Amy Ryan, Sinead Hunt, Isabelle Barrett, Rachel Greaney, Rebekah Daly, Grace Hunt, Rebecca Collins, Stephanie Woulfe, Aoife Curtin ( 1.0) , Maeve Murphy, Michelle Curtin (0.2) Aoife O’ Connor ( 0.1) , Mary Ita Casey (0.2) Noelle Curtin (0.2) Molly Hunt, Ciara Hunt, Jackie Stackpoole

Bons Secours Hospital City East West Junior A League Round 2:
We made the trip to Mountcollins for Round 2 of the City East West Junior A League last Wednesday evening. Dylan Griffin got us off to a good start with an early point. Mountcollins played with intensity and gave us very little time on the ball. TJ Hunt followed up with a point from play and a point from a free before Dylan got his second point. Mountcollins continued to rein us in with points of their own. Shane Mulvihill added a point and a free before halftime to leave the score 0:06 to 0:04 in favour of Athea at the break. In the second half, Andrew O’Riordan scored our first three points as we struggled to maintain our lead as Mountcollins popped over fine scores. TJ Hunt added a free as Mountcollins got control of the game but in fairness to the lads they showed resilience. As he did in the first half Shane Mulvihill added two late points to leave the match all square in this evenly contested match. The final score was Mountcollins 0:12 Athea 0:12.

Limerick’s Division 4 celebrations last week were brought to an end in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday evening when they met a free scoring Cork in the Quarter Final of the Munster Senior Football Championship. The game was competitive up until the sending off of Sean Clancy late in the first half. Cork advance to the Semi-final where they will meet Kerry. Limerick will now focus on a run in the Tailtean Cup. Well done to Shane Ahern who played with the Limerick boys at half time in the match.

Basketball
We are very proud of our girls at Vixens Basketball Club, as they travel to Barcelona at Easter time to compete against teams from across Europe in both U16 and U18 competitions in the Thomas Sola Championship.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our teams to showcase their skills on an International stage, and represent our community and county with pride. While we have been vigorously fundraising for the last six months, we are extremely grateful to all those who helped with our recent fundraising campaign, whether you bought a cake at our cake-sale or dropped money in our bucket collection, it all helped greatly to reach our target. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank especially all the local businesses who where so generous in their sponsorship. We wish the girls all the best in the tournament and hope they have an enjoyable trip!
