DEATH of Richard (Dick) Windle, Dooncaha, Tarbert and late of Tarmons
West, Moyvane and Leitrim East, Moyvane, on March 22nd, 2025,
Predeceased by his parents Paddy and Margaret, brothers Tom, Maurice,
Pat and his sister Sr. Marguerite. Husband to Bridie, father to sons
Richard and Patrick, daughters Bríd and Josephine. Richard will be
missed by his daughters-in-law Emma and Sueanne, sons-in-law Eoin and

MILK: Suppliers of Kerry Dairy Ireland who are members of the Munster
Dairy Producer Organisation (MDPO) have called for both the milk
processor and Kerry Co-op to ensure the leading milk price payment for
2024 is “fully honoured”. The MDPO was set up last summer due to what
interim chairperson James Doyle said was “desperation, frustration and
a lack of representation”. The vast majority of the MDPO’s members are
suppliers of milk to Kerry Dairy Ireland, the milk processing division
of Kerry Group.

TENSIONS: The Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS) has made
a formal submission to the European Commission in relation to its
proposed countermeasures on US imports urging them not to “leverage”
food products in the dispute. Following a request for feedback on the
products included in the EU list of countermeasures, ICOS has called
on the European Commission to “de-escalate” trade tensions with the

FEAST: Feast of St. Ceallach (Celsus) is celebrated on Tuesday 1st
April. Born in 1080, he later became Archbishop of Armagh and
travelled all over Ireland in his efforts to reform the Irish Church.
He died at Ard Pádraig in Co. Limerick at the age of 49. Feast of St.
Tiarnach is celebrated on Friday 4th April. Said to have been baptized
at Kildare in the presence of St. Brigid, the remains of the monastery
he founded are still to be seen at Clones in Co. Monaghan

BALLYEAGH Fight
In June 1834 the Ballyeagh Fight took place on the White Strand
Ballyeagh. It was one of the many faction fights of the time. At that
time races would be held on the strand at low tide. Great numbers
attended the meeting and tents lined the bank of the river on the
Ballyeagh side – there is no strand at the other side. The factions
engaged in this fight were the Lawlors principally from the Beal side
and the Coolleens principally from the Ballyconry and Cashen side.
Evidently this was no sudden outburst for the parties were preparing
for days before hand and came to the strand in military formation the
Coolleens on horseback. Hacket and Aherne lead the Coolleens. They
brought cart loads of stone to use in the fight. A little hay or straw
was thrown over the stones and the women sat on top to allay
suspicion.
Rev Father Buckley PP of Ballybunion met them a short distance from
the strand and asked them to go home but they refused. Then he asked
them to keep the peace and not spill blood but they told him they
would
