THE HEAT IS ON

Our country took to beaches ,parks ,matches, greenways and a whole lot more  on Sunday to enjoy the Beautiful weather that we have been experiencing over the past while with the temperatures rising to 19 degrees  today Monday and there is more to come we are told .And doesnt the lovely fine weather give everyone as they say ——A PEP IN THEIR STEP. So get out there and avail of getting ones Vitamin  D from the Sun but at the same time be careful and dont forget the Sunscreen which is so important too with all we hear about skin Cancer etc .To be fore warned is to be fore Armed .   No doubt the Turf Machines will be Hitting the Bogs in the next few days if they havent done so already ,and it will be Full Steam Ahead then for the Slicing ,and Footing .And weren’t families glad to have their bit of Turf during the Frost and Snow and no Electricity in January last .  Sympathy is extended to Nancy Carroll of Templeathea on the Death of her brother Tom Quinn  recently in Croydon England where his funeral will take place .May he rest in peace. Can you believe it Easter is nearly upon us already and it just seems Xmas is not long gone ,with schools getting their Easter Holidays this Friday ,then it will be Exams time and before we know it Summer Holidays will be upon the Parents and Students —another School Year gone by.  A very Successful Fund Raising Ceili was held at the Hall on Sunday by John Joe Tierney ,and as always a huge crowd attended .Well done to John -Joe for  holding this much appreciated Fund -Raiser for the Community Hall ,its a great boost always .Thanks is extended to Trish Ahern and Tina Byrne and their Basketball helpers  who were on hand to help out with the teas and coffees etc . A great day was enjoyed by everyone.

I was just reading the other day about new words that have been added to the English Dictionary  this year .One of them was SPICE -BOX,  and another was YERRA. I wonder what other words  will be added in the future. Yerra is definitely a word the Irish use, as for Spice-Box one can get at a Chinese  outlet .

Next Sunday is Palm Sunday so parishioners might like to bring their pieces of Palm to Mass for Blessing, but I’m sure there will be some available at the church on Sunday anyway.     Wasn’t it wonderful to see all the Athea Sporting Photos in last weeks Observer and Newsletter —-from Football to Hurling and Basketball and might I add that both the ATHEA UTD soccer pitch and Athea Football pitch  are looking absolutely wonderful these days. Well done to those who look after the Maintenance of them.
