Bons Secours Hospital City East sponsored West Junior A League Round 1:
We made the short trip to Abbeyfeale for Round 1 of the City East West Junior A
League last Wednesday. The match was played in cold conditions under lights but
that didn’t stop us establishing an early rhythm. Brian O Connor got us off to a good
start with two early points. Fr. Casey’s were wasteful and could only register three
first half points as Athea built a healthy lead by halftime thanks to points from TJ
Hunt (4 incl 1tpf), Sean Toomey and James Hunt.
The half time score was 0:08 to 0:03.
In the second half, TJ Hunt having a very good game built the lead further with fine
Scores and a further point from Brian O Connor left us 8 points in front.
Fr. Casey’s did make a comeback and reeled the score line into a 1 point margin,
before Jason Kelly put us two ahead only to be pegged back to one. There was a
tense finish as Fr. Caseys had two great chances to equal but missed both.
Overall this was a good start to the season with a notable performance from Sean
Twomey making his debut at this grade.
The final score was Athea 0:13 Fr. Casey’s 1:09 .

Evan Curry lined out with the Limerick U20’s who played Waterford last Saturday in
Dungarvan. Evan kicked an early point in the game to give Limerick the lead. This
was a much better performance by the team who scored 11 from play. In the closing
stages it became tense as Waterford closed the gap with a brace of two pointers.
Limerick ran out winners on a score line 0:15 to 0:13.
Allianz League Division 4 – Round 5

Limerick took a massive step towards promotion to Division 3 as James Naughton
kicked a crucial last-gasp free to help his side to a 1-21 to 3-15 draw against
Wicklow in Aughrim.
There were three players in the panel with Athea connections. Rory O’Brien, Cormac
Woulfe and Mark McCarthy.
The final match against Waterford is in Mick Neville Park on Sunday next at 1pm
where a win will secure promotion.
U15 Division 2 Féile
Athea u15 footballers took part in Division 2 of the Feile on Saturday morning last hosted by the Kildimo Pallaskenry club on a lovely sunny morning. Athea lost their opening match to a very strong Cappagh/Rathkeale team who went on to win out the competition and we wish them the best of luck when they represent Limerick at national level. Athea went on to win their final two matches against Shannon Gaels and Kildimo Pallaskenry 2:07 to 0:02 and 1:07 to 0:02 respectively but unfortunately only one team went through to the semi-finals from our group. We would like to thank Kildimo Pallaskenry for their hospitality and referee Hugh Keavney for officiating. This group will now direct their focus to the upcoming u16 and 14 leagues. Thanks also to all the parents and supporters for their encouragement in all three matches.

The game started with great pace and Athea got into a lead from well taken points from the boot of Rebecca Collins.
