I am delighted to hear that Glin Library is opening up for 4 days weekly again as it had been operating on twice weekly for the past while. Congratulations to Rosemary Daly (O’Sullivan) who will be running the library from this week onwards. Rosemary, originally from Ballyhahill, is very involved in the local community and will be a great asset to the library.

I am not a pub person but I believe that the new owner of Moore’s Bar – Eugene Ahern – has made a great job of refurnishing this famous Carrigkerry pub. It is a great talking point among the locals, many of whom treat it as their second home. We wish them many happy hours and years of entertainment there.

Well done to Ta and Ita who organised a major cleanup and redecorating of the Killeaney soccer wall as well as Danny Mullane’s old house. Thanks to local contractor James FitzGerald who has the whole place gleaming.

The local Vintage members are in full swing for the big day this coming Sunday. Let’s hope the fine weather continues. This is always a great day. As well as raising funds for the two charities Cystic Fibrosis and The Little Blue Heroes Foundation it provides an opportunity for people to meet and chat, not forgetting admiring all the vintage cars that are to be seen on the day. Well done to the committee members who work hard to make it successful. No doubt they will have their own column with all the information in this edition of Athea & District News.
